Tire Rotation

What is the recommended tire rotation interval? I have read on this forum about issues with not rotating RFTs and performance tires and most of those posts say rotate at 5,000 miles to minimize uneven front to back tire wear. I talked to another Roadster owner (his is a 2012, mine a 2013) this last weekend and he said rotate at 3,000 miles because there is a camber issue. I thought he meant the camber issue was specific to Roadsters but he might have meant all MINIs. Now that I think about it, I didn't realize there was a different suspension set-up on Roadsters so maybe he did mean all.

A friend of mine, who I consider very knowledgeable about MINIs (at least, Cooper hardtops), says that the rear wheels are setup with rather significant negative camber - by design - to aid in cornering. The front wheels, not so much.

I rotate every 5000. It works for my hardtop.

If you do not rotate, you will be going through 2 or 3 sets of front tires for every 1 in the rear.

I've been happy with my tire wear so far, with just under 15k miles and no noticable tire wear oddities. I rotated F/R at 7500 miles. I'm running NM springs with stock control arms and I *do* have negative camber in back, not excessive but more than stock.

Well, I say "happy"...the tires look like new, but I'm planning on some non-RFT tires for next summer, and the thrifty midwesterner in me will cringe at retiring tires with quite a bit of life left in them.

I believe that was you I was right behind on the second leg of The St. Louis Mini Club Fall Rallye from the winery to Bollinger Mill. Am I right?

ljmattox,

what brand/size tire do you have?

my cms all4 w/ sport suspension and 18" wheels came with pirelli cinturato p7 225/45-18 91v summer run-flat tires

they were worn from the original tread depth of 10/32" to 6/32" when i rotated them at 4,900 miles, they will be done at 10k-11k miles

they are wearing evenly front to back and across each tire

i am running 42 psi front and 37 psi rear, set with a tire pyrometer

i am planning on michelin pilot super sports, 225/50-18 next spring sometime

my 205/70R-16 Dunlop Grandtrek SJ6 winters on R123 Alloy 5 Hole Circular Spoke Wheel 16" (5x120) Silver oem mini wheels are going on soon, maybe today
