I have been to tire rack's website and a bunch of others ,and Ihaving much luck finding alternatives to the 195/55/r16 Dunlop allseason radials dont seem to be That came on the car.I am approaching 2 years and 30000 miles on the set I have now,and with my inspection coming up in july, I don't think the tires I have will pass. Can any one suggest where I might have better luck? I really need the all season ,cause I live in NE Mass. and spend a lot of time motoring in snow. With the 10 spoke oem wheels I bought with the car what are my options as far as altering the size from what I have? How much bigger/smaller can I go? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jock

If you're looking for a replacement 16" all-season run flat tire, I think your only choice is the 195/55-16 Dunlop SP Sport 5000A.

If you're looking for a 16" winter run flat tire, there's 3 195/55-16 choices:

Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 DSST
Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW3
Pirelli Winter 210 Snowsport

If you're willing to switch to conventional tires and carry a mobility kit, there's several 205/50-16 high-performance all-season choices:

Pirelli PZero Nero M&S
Toyo Proxes 4
BFGoodrich Traction T/A
Falken Ziex ZE-512

pardon my ignorance ,but what is a "mobility kit"(besides the obvious, lug wrench, jack and spare) and where does one get one?I'm not all that committed to run flats,I find the ride to be quite harsh.

Actually, a mobility kit is an air-compressor and bottle of sealant, which allows your to re-inflate your flat tire:

The MINI branded BMW kit [pn 82-11-0-134-558 ~ $135]:

The MiniMania kit [pn NMA4015 ~ $70]:

The auto parts store kit [Slime Tire Repair Kit ~ $25-30]:

I believe the only advantage to the BMW / MINI kit is that you don't have to remove the valve core to pump in the sealant.
