I have just bought a 2013 Cooper S with JCW Aero package. The OEM wheels are 17". Am I correct in thinking that I can run 16" Wheels for the winter with this ? As long as I do not have the JCW upgraded brakes.
If it currently has 205/45-17 would 195/55-16's be a good choice ?

Get some used stock 16" wheels and put the 195s on them...my choice for snows is the Bridgestone RFTs. Great combination.

 

This is good advice. I picked up a set of Bridge Spoke wheels on this site for $150 and mounted some Blizzak WS70s (non run flat, since I added a spare) on them along with a TPMS kit from tire rack and it worked out well for me. The TPMS stuff is $200 at tire rack, and I couldn't find it any cheaper anywhere else, so be prepared to spend a bit extra. They even accommodate my Wildwood BBK!
