Question
Hey guys, I have a 2013 JCW coupe and loving it,except for the Dunlop run flats, so i bought some 18' rims and Hankook ventus tires from Discount tires but i screwd up the tires are 215/35/18 makes the wheels look like 16s (about a 3' gap from the tire to the wheel arch ) anyway I now realize i should have gone with 205/40/18 but the tire choice is really limited....so my question is would 225/40/18 work? I know there a little wider so worried about rubbing issues anybody running that size ??

What are the specs of the 18" wheel? Width and offset?
That would tell you if you are likely to rub with a tire size that is larger than stock as is 225/40-18.
On a stock wheel with stock suspension it is possible that 225/40-18 would fit but it is taller and wider than a stock tire and a little too wide for a stock 18x7" wheel.
215/35-18 is actually OK as a tire but it is smaller in tire diameter than stock by 0.5".
215/40-18 is slightly tall at 24.9" tire diameter but will fit on a wider than stock 18" wheel with less chance of rubbing due to tire width.
For tires in 205/40-18
Look at Michelin Pilot Super Sport $176 each, Max Summer tire, 300 treadwear

225/40-18 fits rims 7.5-9" wide (perfect fit 8" rim) so it will fit the 18x7.5" rim you have.
Tire diameter is tall at 25.1" but will fit with slightly less wheel gap. The tire may look slightly oversized for your MINI vs stock tire.
You have a JCW MINI so I would not recommend buying tires that are more budget oriented. First determine your driving needs, then determine which tire suits that best and whether it comes in a size that fits given your car and suspension.
As far as tires go, if you do not drive in the cold or light snow you can use a summer tire, but if you do have cold weather and or snow then an All Season tire makes sense.
If a summer tire will do then as I mentioned the tire of choice in your case would be-
Michelin Pilot Super Sport in 205/40-18 for $176 each, 20 lbs, 300 treadwear. Fits rims 7-8" wide, perfect fit with 7.5" rim.
You can have a larger selection of tires in 225/40-18 but they may not match up as well if you care about handling, performance, treadwear, ride comfort, etc. It's your choice.
Only you can determine what your budget is. I do not know any owner of a MINI that was disappointed with Michelin Pilot Super Sports for street driving.
Choose wisely, your MINI deserves it.

I've got an '06 JCW cabriolet with the factory 18" JCW wheels. I run 215/40-18 Ventus V12 Evos with no rubbing. The stock 205 size offered too few choices in tires. The Ventus V12's are a top notch tire and took 2nd place in Car and Drivers summer tire test a few years back. And they work really well in the rain as well.
See my gallery for some pix of what that size looks like on a cab.
