Winter/Mud Terrain Tires

Winter/Mud Terrain Tires
I'm sure a lot of you have seen the "lifted" MINI Cooper S with the 3" lift and the giant mud terrain tires and all that. I wouldn't care to drive that beast around all year however, I would love to have that in the winter here . I have a set of 15" x 5.5" steel rims and I'm looking to get mud terrain tires that would fit these for winter driving. I don't want to put a lift on my car, for obvious reasons. I just want a good set of mud/snow tires that will fit in my tire arches as is. I don't want any of those "winter tires" though. I'm sure they perform great but, often times my area doesn't get plowed. I want some tires that can push through a few inches of snow and maybe even a few inches of mud in the fall and spring . Again, they're 15" x 5.5" steel rims and I want some mud terrain tires, like the classic MINI's sometimes were seen with. Here's a couple pics to help with.
P.S. I have 17" rims right now with 205/45/R17 tires, so that's what fits in the arches I have to work with
Classic MINI 155 x 70 x 12 Colway Rally Tire Mud and Winter Tread
Any ideas for tires just like this ^^^ that will fit these rims...?

the dunlop grandtrek sj6 is a studless winter ice & snow / all terrain tire as speced by dunlop
i have them installed on my countryman in 205/70R16 and can attest to how well they work
i have driven through 9" of fresh wet unplowed snow with no problems, even though i was pushing 3"-4" of snow with the front bumper
i have driven on clear ice after an ice storm, on a 500' x 1/2 mile long empty airport ramp
the traction on ice is fantastic, i could make 200' radius 180 degree turns at 40 mph
last week i had a chance to try them in a construction zone, 2"-4" of slush/mud and drove through with no problems
225/45R18 on left / 205/70R16 on right
i highly recommend these tires

Some possible tires for you:
Check deep snow traction-
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...sp?type=W&VT=C
General Altimax Artic (studdable winter snow tire)
195/60-15 $73 each, fits rims 5-7" wide, perfect for 6" rim, 24.2" tire diameter, 18 lbs
Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRT (Studless ice and snow tire)
195/65-15 $87 each, fits 5.5-7" wide rim, 20 lbs, 25.2" tire diam. is taller than stock
205/55-16 $112 each, fits 5.5-7.5" wide rim, 23 lbs, 24.9" tire diam. is OK
While both these sizes are taller than OEM they will fit, just with less clearance which can be a factor in the snow or mud.
I did not see any off road truck tires that would fit the MINI in 15" or 16" sizes, all were far too tall.
