DSC sensor damage replacing tires

I've just replaced my run flats with standard tires. During the drive home from the shop my DSC light started to come on intermittently. Could the DSC sensor(s) been damaged during the tire service? Any thoughts? thx Ron

Back to the other thread...
the dsc uses the abs wheel speed sensors....the same sensors used to monitor for a flat tire.
When one wheelspeed sensor fails, 3 lights come on, and stay on, including a flat tire warning, that cannot be reset.
There are a few other components...a steerong angle sensor, and a controler...
Your descriptiion in the other thread makes it sound like the dsc is turning on...
Does the light flash on the dsc when power is reduced, then turns off when the power returns?
if the dsc light STAYS ON, then thete IS a fault.
If the light goes out...sounds like it is working...
Did you put summer tires on the car in cold weather? This WILL cause slippage.
What tires, brand/size did you get?

I've replaced run-flats with Bridgestone ECOPIA EP422. They are 87V rated all-season.
The DSC system appears to be working correctly. The light flashes intermittently with the engine power reducing accordingly. Power appears normal when light is off. I've called the mini dealer and they said that the sensor records reason for activating and the recorded history would show if
faulty sensor or system is working properly.
If you feel the tire is at fault is there a listing of recommended replacement tires. I would prefer Bridgestone if possible.
thx Ron

It's not the tire (assuming you have 4 of the same tires). It's either the pressure in the tire or the sensor. My guess is that you have an intermittent ground fault in one of your sensors. Unfortunately, they're more expensive than they should be for a magnet, a couple of wires in plastic: <$100.

While replacing the 4 tires was it possible(probable) that the sensor was damaged?
It seems too much of a coincidence that I should be having this problem after work was done in the wheel area.
thx Ron

I'm not a mechanic, but if it is a sensor, i kinda doubt you are gonna be able to truely find fault...things break, part of owning a car.
The tire you listed is the right size, and it is an allseason...check the psi, and i just winder if you are an agressive driver....that tire does seem to be more of a tire for a hybird/family hauler than a sporty car with a sc....and you said the light came on around traffic lights, ehen you were acclerating pretty heavily right?

Will checking the sensor history tell if it's a faulty sensor or working correctly(ie tire problem) or indicate if a sensor is having problems. Also dealer is 100 mi away. Could the trip to dealership cause problems since the DSC system will be going in and out.

Zippy, your right, the tire is more standard than sporty. My driving is mostly around town. Also the tire pressure is 30psi on fronts and 28 psi on rears. NOT 35! I'll correct the pressure and see if this corrects the DSC problem.
thanks for your help..

just turn the DSC off when you use the car till it is fixed....That little switch in the middle console...just flip it...the DSC light will turn on, telling you it is off...each time the car is started or the light goes out you will have to flip the switch it again. Just remember, the car will not have this feature turned on...so be careful!!
"dealer" is often not the best source of repairs, especially if 100 miles away.
A local BMW or MINI centric repair shop could be more convent, closer and cheaper, and have the right tools and experance to fix it.
Where are you? Perhaps a few folks can chime in with shops that might know mini's close to you!

Sounds like you drive"normally" like I do 99 of the time....nothing wrong with that!! Just remember, a different class of tire will perform differently when you push down hard on the pedal....with the DSC off, see if you can feel the tires slip with the same driving style....if they do..wether it is from a bit of sand, etc...then you have an answer....if all is good, then get it in to get the sensor looked at!

After added air to correct the psi the DSC light comes on more frequently. I'll take your advise and turn the DSC system off. I live in Payson Az about 75 miles north of Phoenix,Scottsdale. Any info on a preferred shop would be appreciated. thanks for all you help and good advise. ps: are there any Bridgestone tires you would recomment? Ron
