What are the rotor/pad options for late 06 R53?

Doing some research for new rotor/pad options for my late (09/06 build) '06 R53. I've read some posts saying front rotors are 294mm for late 06 cars. Most vendors' sites simply list the same rotors for 02 to 06. For example, I was looking at StopTech SportStop Drilled Rotors on the TireRack and it lists the same rotors for all non-JCW R53s. Anyone know for sure?

Also, anyone have a list of rear pads that are compatible with the sensor? I wasn't able to find a comprehensive list.

You can start your search here-

Ask Way for good street brake parts for you. He would know what fits/works.

I wouldn't suggest drilled rotors unless you were going for looks. Solid or slotted are best.

There is a bit of a story here.....
But first to answer your question...If you have a GEN1 MINI, no JCW BBK, then regular rotors...if you have a BBK, then you need the JCW rotors (same as stock GEN2 rotors).
Now the story (from what I remember)...and you might have seen a story or info made about that time... a FEW cars were MISS equipped at the factory, and subsequently recalled with the wrong rotors...the bigger rotors SHOULD have a bigger caliper (and were NOT)...and when the gen2 production was almost ready to go, apparently some cars got parts from the wrong bin!!
There was a "campaign", not sure it was an official recall, but they "looked" to see the car had the right rotors.

Think early on, many rears were incompatible with the sensors...but have not seen ANY lately that list them as incompatible...they may be out here...old stock or low volume pads....but MOST seem to NO-LONGER have that note.

All 02-06 MINI's have the same rotors unless they have the JCW brake kit.
As for the different numbers I think that was originally for the 14mm lug bolt holes, but All the rotors we stock have the 14mm holes so they will fit all the 02-06 MINI's.

As for pads go with the EBC redstuff, they are a great pad and do have the sensor slots.
The only pads I've seen lately that don't have the slots are some Hawk pads and a few no name brand pads.

Also don't spend the extra on drilled rotors, they are just for looks on a street car.

Thanks Zippy and Way. EBC redstuff pads are number one on my list. As for rotors, there is one "looks" element that is important to me - I would like rotors with a durable coating on the hats to prevent the ugly rust that develops on unprotected or poorly protected rotors.

I highly recommend Centric Powerslot rotors. I've currently got a set of drilled and slotted JCW rotors and won't run them on the track because they're drilled. Yes, they look cool, but to those in the know, slotted are the "coolest". (I've already got Powerslots on the rear.)

I'm also running Hawk HPS on all four corners. No problems with sensors and they work well.

Thx Martinb. Seems a lot of members like the Hawk pads. What's the year and build date of your car?

Are rear brakes important?
I feel my brake's don't bite as hard as they used too. My rear brakes are thin, but the front are fine. should I waste my time with the rear brakes now? I'd rather invest in the front.

tlr1000: The car is an '06 cabriolet. Not sure of the build date, but I think it's either June or July of '06. It's a full on factory JCW car as well with every possible JCW option. Even factory LSD and factory front strut brace. Full aero kit as well.

leaf fan 1988: If your brakes really aren't biting like they used to, it's likely a problem with the front, not the rear. The front brakes do anywhere's from 70 percent and up of the total braking. However, if the rears are getting thin and will need to be replace relatively soon, 'might as well get them done along with the front rather than dealing with it again later. Time is money.

Don't know for sure because I measured them, but I talked with the tech guys at Centric/Stoptech and they said they're all 12mm on 1st gen.

FYI: I ordered my Stoptech Powerslot rotors from here: www.thmotorsports.com

78 bucks per rotor and 79 for the pads. Plus free shipping and no sales tax.

thanks martinb. BTW, late 2006 1 Gen cars, like mine, have 14mm lug bolts.

You had me worried there for a second. Mine's a June or July build so I started second guessing the lug bolt size. Fortunately it was easy to check as I have an extra set of longer ones that I used when I was running spacers. Mine are 12 mm. I'm guessing that the switch to 14mm was a very late switch and partially because of the pending switch to the 2nd gen car.

Thanks for the post, though, as it was worth checking.

I'm really liking the CoolCarbon Performance pads that I put on late last fall.

Better bite than the Hawk HPS and much less dust than the OEM ones I had previously.
