TPMS question.

So I'm going to switch out my wheels for other wheels with no tire pressure monitors.

The light on the dash doesn't come on permanently if there are no sensors at all correct?

Can the sensors be removed and used again. Or how much are they worth if I try to sell them?

The light will stay on permanently if you do not have the sensor installed and you can install the sensor on another set of wheels.

Depending on the model year the newer sensor has different part number and will not be compatible.

The info above based on experiences with Gen 2.

I have an 05 r53. That's odd because I had a 05 ZHP with the tpms removed and the light did not stay on.

yes the sensors can be removed and used again. you could do something crazy like not waste time and possible money removing them from your stock wheels and have a full set of spares and buy a second set of TPS sensors. They aren't that much.

I'm in college and I'm on a tight budget. I'm only buying wheel/tire combo used cause it is about the same cost as new tires. Except this way I get to move up to 17" and ditch runflats. Then sell the x-lites, keep or sell the sensors and recoup some of the cost of the wheel/tire combo.

You are in Canada so maybe things are different but in the US

an 05 goes not have TMPS sensors in the wheels

the pressure monitor system is based on the ABS system measuring changes in speed of rotation

TMPS with active sensors was introduced during the 07 model year.

Show us a picture of a tire valve stem . . . you can usually tell from that.

Oh true.. It just looks like a conventional black valve stem? No different than any old BMW I've owned. (E30's, e36, e46's). Ill post up a picture in a bit.

An r53...gen1 car DOES NOT USE TPMS.
Gen1 cars use the abs sensors to count tire rotations, to calculate the tire size....a sudden change = a tire loosing air, light goes on.
The system must "learn" the new tires and rims when installed...the reason for the reset button.
So ANY RIM CAN BE USED. The car does not use mini tpms. Period.
