The light will stay on permanently if you do not have the sensor installed and you can install the sensor on another set of wheels.
Depending on the model year the newer sensor has different part number and will not be compatible.
The info above based on experiences with Gen 2.

You are in Canada so maybe things are different but in the US
an 05 goes not have TMPS sensors in the wheels
the pressure monitor system is based on the ABS system measuring changes in speed of rotation
TMPS with active sensors was introduced during the 07 model year.
Show us a picture of a tire valve stem . . . you can usually tell from that.

Gen1 cars use the abs sensors to count tire rotations, to calculate the tire size....a sudden change = a tire loosing air, light goes on.
The system must "learn" the new tires and rims when installed...the reason for the reset button.
So ANY RIM CAN BE USED. The car does not use mini tpms. Period.
