Replace Pads and Rotors together?

Replace Pads and Rotors together?
I just got new tires at Big O Tires and they checked my front brakes. Pads are almost worn down, so need to be replaced. The guy said that rotors and pads need to be replaced at the same time.
Question:
Is that true? I've seen posts here of people replacing just the pads. What's the benefit of doing both? What's the disadvantage of only changing the pads?
Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks.

ya know
I think that's been discussed once or twice b4 . . . or 30 or 40 times
ya been on here since 2006 and have never seen a discussion of this?
I get two sets of pads to one set of rotors on my MINIs since my early 2002-s
there is a minimum thickness on the OE rotors ... it is cast into the rotor
I've posted the numbers many times here on NAM ... search post by me.
a 2004 is unlikely up for its first pad change .... you owned this from new? Last pad change were the rotors changed?
Sorry .... but I answer a LOT of questions here for folks ... answering a very basic question that is asked weekly can get my goat up. You want me to spend more time answering your question than you are willing to spend looking for an answer already provided . . .

The specs are usually on the edge of the rotor.

There are 232K threads and over 3.6 million posts on this forum alone. It does become a little frustrating to see someone sign up and jump in with questions that have been asked and answered multitudes of times. There is a very useful and easy to use search engine that can find, in seconds, the answer. How often do we see a question followed by someone providing the url to a thread that has the answer. If he could find it...

Alot of shops will tell you that you SHOULD do pads and rotors together. But if you take a peek at your rotors, and there are no lips/cracking/warpage etc. You could be fine. But hey, this is an excuse to get some aftermarket rotors and pads! Slotted/Drilled? If you are looking to get some rotors or pads, hit me up. I can offer some great prices!
