Brake pad warning light!
#1
I have a Cooper S with 19,000 miles. My Brake pad warning light can on. Te back pads were worn so I order front and back Green pads and installed them. The EBC Green pads only had the sensor slot for the front so I left the back uninstalled. My question is how the heck I turn off the warning light. I is still on, my oil level is ok, my pads are new and the car does not pull in weird directions when I brake hard. Please help.

the warning sensors are one-time use. that that once they go off (turning thr brake light on), you have to replace them. I had to do it on my bmw 3-series and it was 120 bucks! So if I were you, I would put the stock pads back on and bring it to the dealer to replace the pads (if they are a cool dealer, they might install the sensors on the greenstuff pads but you risk them saying that they won't work on the brakes after an aftermarket upgrade). Brakes are under the 3/36k warrenty so it will be free. Hope it all works out.

Interesting. I am on the cusp of ordering EBC greens just to get rid of the dust the stock pads create (only 4K). Will have to double check with Alex about the rear pads accomodating the sensor....
So if this sensor ever goes off, I have to go to the MINI dealer to get it turned off? Dealer is 200 miles away!
I have pretty much anticipated most of the work on this car will be done by myself or by a very good local import shop I trust (exception of severe warranty issue). These kinds of electronic things really irritates me.

When the sensor no longer touches the cast iron rotor the light will go off!
When you put new pads in the friction is full thickness, pushing the sensor back off the rotor.

They have new pads for the the rear that have a slot for the sensor but most US shops have not gotten them in yet. They always say they will be in next week. I paid for mine a few weeks ago and I have the EBC's on the front and love them, just waiting on the new rears to get in stock.
Spring of '03 production builds and later have the rear sensor.

Actually that's incorrect. The sensor activates the light after the rotor wears it in half. It BREAKS the connection to turn the light on.Once the light comes on, you need to replace the sensor. You can loop a wire into the two sensor holes to turn the light off if you don't care about the sensor feature.

I appologize, that was my personal experience with BMW pad sensors that hadn't been ground in to activation.
