#5 is the center hub cap puller. Its for MINIs that have center hub cap for there wheels, some caps have a hole to insert and pull, some just have a notch. Then you can get to the wheel bolts.

The Paceman on has it for the Turbo fan wheel for them , But used for multiple wheels for other models.

Wow - I wonder if mine will arrive in German?

Given all that I have learned here, I suspect the dealer will not provide the parts. The salesperson said they would order them, but now I have my doubts.

I have something that looks like the #5 item - but I think it is for releasing the auto shift lock when it is jammed. I didn't get a jack or the other items. The online manual (different from the written manual I got with the car) mentions that the tire change kit is available for purchase. The only thing I know I need for sure is the tow bar that screws into the front bumper. I am pretty sure that is supposed to be included.

I think #5 can be used for that also. I remember seeing it used for certain automatics to push a tab down.

Don't know if they changed things for the Jack just for the Paceman , but the Countrymans I have seen have them. They change the tool kits from year to year on what comes in them. If you need anything that's not stock left me know.

There is a mobile tire kit which is available that I think you are talking about, the only MINI I have seen this stock on is the MINI JCW GP 2 which does not come with the cool MINI case.

Ok so brought back in to dealer this morning for oil change. Explained braking at highway speeds causing shake in steering wheel. Was just told by s/a brakes ok visual inspection w/o removing wheels. Granted its been a long time since I've worked anywhere near a shop but we always removed wheels for rotors ect. 32 pt visual inspection is not equal to test drive!

Rotor Noise?

Hey guys, I noticed this post was related to rotors and such, even though it seems to have gotten off topic.

Anyway, do you think any of you could help me. I took a short video of an issue that I'm having with a noise that seems to be coming from the driver's side wheel area. What are your thoughts?

Check that your dust shield is clear of the rotor all the way around(?).

Took the wheel off today and bent back the brake dust shield. Took it for a test drive and still sounds the same. I think I just have a warped rotor, although, I don't feel it when I brake... Ugh

Finally figured it out. Car sat in an auction lot for a while and the brake pads attached themselves to the rotor. When the car was finally driven, they broke loose but warped the rotor. All I need to do is get the rotors cut.

Just get new rotors.
Turning them will make them very likely to warp again.
You can find rotors at many parts houses for about $30 or on Rockauto.com for as low as $12

You think? My neighbor has a rotor turner machine. I might as well just try. It's not really hurting anything. Thanks for the advice!

UPDATE: Not good

UPDATE:
I bought 2 new front rotors. I took off the driver's side (problem side) and replaced it with a brand new rotor. I checked the brakes in the process. They looked great! I reassembled the caliper onto the rotor and torqued everything to factory. When I spun the rotor, it was still making the sound. So I took the new rotors back and just had my old ones cut. I put on the newly cut rotors and I'm still getting the noise. It was then I realized I am missing the clips for my brake shoes to slide into. (not the clips that slide into the holes on the outside of the caliper). Are clips that allow your brakes shoes to slide in cleanly necessary? I've had them replaced on all my other vehicles but am new to my MINI.

Thanks for your feedback.

Which clips are you talking about ? Here is a diagram. These are the standard front calipers on the R50 / R52 / R53 MINI , not JCW.

#4 is the outside clip, which you said is not the problem. Part # 34111512715

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/34111512715/

Are you talking about the clips built into the pad on the inside that clip into the caliper piston ?

Not #4

Yes, you are correct. I'm not talking about the wire clip that goes on the outside. I'm talking about the metal piece that allows the brake shoes to slide back and forth.

Oh, Ok.

That's picture above is the R56 MINI ( which is Gen 2 ) . Which has the system with the top and bottom slide clips.

I thought you had an R53 ( Gen 1 with stock ( non JCW ) brakes?

Unless someone put R56 brakes on your R53 or painted the JCW R53 brakes ?

Once I know what you have then I can if something is wrong or confusing.

If You do have the same exact brakes as the pic above with the bottom and top clips. They come with the OEM brake pads and are not a separate part.

Thanks

That picture was used as a reference for certain models and years. I have an 05 r53. I have stock brakes/calipers. But I was just using the picture to show you which "clips" I was talking about.

So I guess my question is, do I need those slide clips? The brakes were serviced at 32k miles with the original first owner. The dealership must've been lazy and didn't put new slide clips on. The car now has 41k miles and I'm turning all of the rotors (front and back). The rear brakes don't have the slide clips on them either FYI.

Yea, Those pics for the brakes above for the R53(JCW) and R56+ brake. Your R53 Cooper S on stock brakes does not have those clips.

R50 R52 R53 Gen 1 front brakes. #15 does not have clips on the top and bottom.

If you could take a picture of your brakes I can help you.

Hope this helps. So what you are saying is that gen 1 mcs do not need slide clips?

Correct those metal clips are not for your stock R53 Brakes.

Couple tips. .. .

Here is your diagram for your brakes.

#4 is the outside clip, looks to be good on your car but if its is bent or broken on the rod going into the holes , replace it. It also applies tension between the caliper and the caliper carrier. Part # 34111512715

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/34111512715/

The clips that are on the inside pad (three prone ) , that you see below make sure the are press all the way in on the piston and flat against the pad backing.

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/34116770332/

Wire brush or clean the siding points on the caliper carrier where the ears of the pad backing slides into. Little notch on the top and bottom. You can see it where the pads rest on the large #2 pic on the attached thumbnails.

Also its a great time to inspect the slider boots and and pins to make sure they are sliding correctly with a little tension. Pull the pins out and clean them. The boots can get rust between the boot and caliper , pull the rubber out and look at it. Replace the sliders if worn.

One set for each caliper.

#13 in the above diagram. Guide Bushing Set - Priced Per Caliper Part # 34111157038

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/34111157038/

Here are the pins bolts:

#5 in the above diagram . Caliper Guide Bolt - Priced Each

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/34111157041/

Also when you put new rotors on make sure you wire brush and clean the hub and flange. Makes the new rotor seat correctly and change out those rotor screws and apply some ant-seize to them on the threads, so they are not a pain to take out next time.

#12 on the above digram. Brake Rotor Set Screw - Priced Each Part # 07136772426

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/07136772426/

If you do these thing you will eliminate most problems.

Last but not least here is our braking section for your 2005 R53 MINI Cooper S Section for braking. Let me know if you need anything else.

http://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2005-Cooper-R53-S-Coupe-L4_1.6L_W11B16A/Braking/

Thanks

I can safely say that I inspected everything when disassembling/reassembling the wheel, caliper, and rotors. Everything was torqued to factory specs. After taking the car off the jacks and driving for about 5 miles, the issue I had with the wheel "whooshing" has not gone away.

Many sleepless nights will occur.

I appreciate all of your comprehensive help, opinions, and ideas.

The R53 cars never had any clips like what you're talking about. What kind of pads are those?

They say BMW on them so I'm assuming that they are oem stock pads. They only have 8k miles on them and look great!
