Using a smaller snow tire on my 2007 Mini S

I have a 2007 Mini Cooper S. The standard tires are 205 R45 17 I have excellent condition Blizzak tires which are 205 55R 16. I could get at least two winters out of these tires. I would like to buy 16" rims and use them in the winter. Can this be done? How will it effect my Speedomet and Odometer?

Thanks for any help you can provide

Theoretical total diameters for those two tyres are:
205/55-16 : 632mm / 24.9"
205/45-17 : 617mm / 24.3"

So your non-standard tyres are significantly bigger diameter (+2.4%) and they will make your speedo and odometer read low - but the Mini speedometer reads so high that 2.4% is probably e=only enough to get it to read accurately.

I can't comment if that diameter will cause any fit issues, but I doubt it, unless your car has been lowered.

Yes it can be done. Use a 16x7" wheel is fine. Assuming you have stock suspension it will fit and be OK for speedometer and odometer (close enough).
