HELP! 215/45/17's work on stock MCS wheels?

hi folks,

I will be picking up my 2013 JCW this weekend in Chicago and driving back home, and need some advice pretty quickly.

I want to dump the run-flats, so i am going to have some A/S tires put on in the Chicago suburbs for the drive home as it might be a little snowy!

I have more options with 215/45/17's rather than the stock 205/45/17's that come on the car.

I'm sure the slightly larger size will work fine on the stock wheels, but I was hoping for an experienced opinion beforehand.

thanks!

Jeff

+1. I ditched the RF tires too when I took delivery of the JCW last November with 215/45/17 on the stock wheels. It actually fills the wheel gap pretty good that I am delaying lowering the ride height until the stock struts go bad.

I am running 215/45/17 on my 2010 R56S. They fit quite nicely. My rims are not stock but stock size as far as I know.

Which all season tire did you pick and how did it work in the snow for you?

Hi there,

I put on the Continental Control Contact Sport A/S in 215/45/17. They are fantastic in the snow.

It's really funny. We left the dealer in suburban Chicago with about 3 inches of snow on the streets and more falling, with the OEM Dunlop performance run-flats on, driving back home to Columbus, OH.

It was 1.5 miles from the Mini dealer to Discount Tire. I think the DTS light flashed the entire route to the tire shop. Very slight up-slopes in the 6 lane street we were one were very tough to get up without sliding around.

I was taking off in 2nd gear from lights and could get no traction whatsoever(SPORT mode was obviously OFF). Very dangerous situation.

Put on the A/S tires and what a difference! It was snowing a LOT all the way into central Indiana and I had complete confidence in the car. DTS might have engaged one time on our way home....otherwise, I was moving at highway speeds on the snowy and icy interstates with no problem.

I know people always talk about the tremendous difference between run-flats and A/S tires in the snow and I realized it first hand..wow..

I'm sold!

Thanks for the update and good to hear you are now dramatically more prepared for seasonal changes.

The Control Contact Sport A/S is an exclusive Ultra High Performance All Season tire for discounttire.

We've had no problem with 215/45-17 on our JCW, we've been using them for our track tires. Though this weekend we had a little issue when we put the same tires on our JustaCooper. We got a little rubbing over bumps, but only on the left, and only on the way to the track, it was fine at the track and coming back. I'm suspicious of the autocross alignment on the JustaCooper, I took out a lot of rear camber, and our track wheels have 5mm less offset to push them out a bit more.

Rubbing issues would most likely be at the inside edge of the rear fender. Easy to fix, or they eventually rub clear. Dremeling is the preferred method. I personally would mot let them rub, for possible tire damage.

Hi, I currently have Conti Extreme contact DWS on my moded R53 (around 200 WHP)
I am extremely happy with this tire, but it's time to get new ones and they don't sell the DWS anymore

Thinking of putting Conti Control contact sport a/s on my MINI as the replacement.
Z06_Pilot or anybody else has this tire, would you please share your experience with the longevity of the tire also? I see some negative review of it on a WRX forum saying the inside shoulder wear out faster than the other parts of the tire
Thanks Guys!

The DWS is replaced by the DWS 06.

Correct! That was offered as well, pretty much the same price as the control contact, as it has a $70 mail in rebate

I thought the control contact is better, until I saw the negative review at the WRX forum.

Now I am thinking of going back to the DWS 06.
Any advise on going one over the other ? Thanks again
