I think the +37 offset will fit, might not even rub on stock springs, but will have a little visual 'poke'. 205 tires would give more margin. Maybe investigate whether its safe to shave the back pads. A company like BBS should be able to give you a clear answer on this. Or these should be a great size for VW heads, maybe you can get most of your money back.

I've just ordered an SE, I think they have Justa brakes, but I'd probably fix that.

For the road and matching the tire rolling diameter from a larger wheel, the taller sidewall will give a better ride and offer better protection to the wheel from potholes.
I run 15” on my R56 on the track. They are a lot lighter weight than 17” and tires can be sized (smaller rolling dia) to give 7- 8% better gearing. All for better acceleration. Of course the down side is the size brakes that will fit them.
Post what you come up with.

Agree 15" won't fit on S brakes. I have 16" on my S, and there isn't an extra 1/2" of room.
While I do love my 16" wheels, next time I would go with 17", for sharper handling, and more tire choice. Pretty slim pickings in 16" high performance. But if you are thinking 15, go 16 and I think you'd be happy.

I may yet go 16 for summers.

You say you already have the car and you have the wheels... Why not just switch out a front wheel and try it out?

These look a lot like the Sparco Trofeo wheels I have. I needed to use a 3mm spacer to give me a comfortable clearance to the spokes. The other thing that you will need to watch out for are the tabs that stick out from the brake pads. On my wheels these interfered with the wheel weights taped onto the underside of the barrel of the wheel. The fix was to ensure that the person doing the wheel balance didn’t put weights in that area of the wheel.

That has to be agonizing to have to wait when you know the car is just sitting there.
But the car is worth the wait...
The 17” wheel will fit in the radial direction. However, if there is an issue it will be in the lateral direction between the caliper and the spokes. My guess - This will likely be easily fixed with a thin spacer and longer wheel bolts. Good luck with them. I like they way they look and I think the 17” wheels are the better option than the 18”. The 17” will have a better ride and there are more tire options, especially if you move up to a 215-45x17.
Looking forward to what you find out.

Hopefully your wheels will fit and you can forgo the spacers.
I got 3mm spacers from Turner Motorsports, as well as a set of slightly longer wheel bolts. This provided about 5mm of clearance between the spokes and caliper. Plenty of room. Without the spacers there was about 2mm of clearance, which was a little too close for my liking.

Hey everybody, I've been running Yokohama Advan A052 225/45/17 tires on Neuspeed RSe16 (17x8.0 +45) wheels.
Looks like Yokohama is phasing out the A052s. They are unavailable anywhere. I've got a track day coming up, my current A052s are getting wiry. What's a good A052 225/45/17 replacement?
THANKS!

The Nittos are very predictable, and quite durable given their tread wear rating. Not too pricy either for tires in this category. Good luck with whatever you decide to run with 👍

Thanks for the info, @Eddie07S . My wheels are 8.0" +45. Wondering if I can run those same Falkens in a 225/14/17.
Jokes aside-
I believe this guy (link) has the same wheels as you and used to run the Yokos. He has the 225 Falkens fitting. I know he has a bit of rubbing on the inside of the rear wheel well arch. Then again, I have that with my 215s.
