I could swear that I've seen a set of wheels made by a company called "SSP" that were a perfect knock off of SSR's.

Has anyone else heard of these ? (or am I going prematurely stupid )

I searched but didn't find much that matched for SSP wheels making SSR like wheels.
There are a few companies that do make knockoffs like Rota.
What design from SSR were you interested in?

 

I think NZO Monza wheels originally came with "SSP Type C" decals on them:

 

Webbmotorsports.com has AK Monza wheels in 15" and 16x6.5 with 44mm offset (legal for SCCA autocross solo II racing).

They are similar in finish and design to SSR comps but not as light.
Strong enough for general use and autocross and much less in cost.
