Anyone know the book labor rate for changing front brake rotors and pads on a 2002 MCS?

dealership charged me like $100 per wheel, and i supplied the pads and rotors... so i want to say 1-1.5 hours per wheel.

they also did the breakin for me

Labor rates vary a lot, dealership rates are super high.

Labor for front brake pads and rotors is about $100-250.

$100 labor if they are selling you the pads and rotors with a marked up price.

$200 labor if you supply the parts which is usually the best way to go.

Pads that will suit your priority/needs- street use, not noisy, low dust.

Rotors- basic plain rotors with a painted hat to resist corrosion.

For the record you should be asking what the ”Flat Rate" is for that job. That is the number of hours it will take. Labor rates are what the hourly cost is and range from $65 to $150 depending on where you are.

Dealers love this because any mechanic usually can beat the flat rate by half and sometimes more. For instance I am not a working mechanic but can do both sides of my 2003 MCS in an hour with pads and rotors. Not rushing. Of course on your car the rotor hold down may be stripped and that will double the time and that gets figured into the flat rate but I think you get the idea.

I have no access to the Flat Rate books but I would assume it would be at least .75 a side and possibly an hour a wheel flat rate. OTOH, pads and rotors are the easiest job for us to do ourselves. It does take a good set of ratchets and a brake tool for the rear caliper, but I believe that anyone who owns a car should have a basic set of tools as well.

Sorry I wasn't clear in my original post. What I was looking for was how long should it take to do the job.

For front only 1.5 to 2 hours max. I can do it myself in about 30 minutes.

If you have the tools and have done brakes before, then from jacking it up to putting it down, 1.5 hours an axle without rushing. I wouldn’t do the job without a torx bit and impact screwdriver to get the rotor bolt out, but that is me. Make sure you put anti-seize on it when you put it back. And if the head is damaged in any way, even slightly, then get new ones as it’s cheap insurance for next time. And lube the caliper pins too.

If you think you have the tools and have to figure things out as well, double the time.
