How 'bout Castrol SRF brake fluid

1. Is Castrol SRF compatable with the MINI ABS system?
2. Has anyone tried it?
3. What is your opion after using it?

Thanks. Motor on.

The Castrol SRF is compatable with the Mini brake system.

It's an excellent brake fluid, but very expensive, so I have never tried it. I tend to go with Motul RBF 600. Not quite as good (but close), and not nearly as expensive.

Good Luck!

tsprayfhs,

1. Yes it is compatible.
2. In my area most of us have upgraded to ATE superblue only. Good performance for autocross Solo II and light track or driving school events. No long track available.
3. Ask Eric Savage at Helix13.com, he sells both Castrol SRF and ATE superblue brake fluids and has installed it for customers.

What is your intended use for your MINI? I'd say if you do long track then the Castrol SRF is good with other brake upgrades that will help to reduce heat.

If you are using your MINI just for street, autocross and light track then something like ATE 2000 or superblue (same as 2000 but blue color) would be cheaper and work fine. Change it once yearly.

HMS 3003 Castrol SRF $68.50
"Our track tests reviled the need to upgrade the stock brake fluid for the more demanding use of brakes. Castrol SRF is the highest quality fluid you can use in your car. SRF has a Dry boiling point of 590F and a wet boiling point of 518F."

HMS 3011 ATE Super Blue $12.00
ATE Super Blue Racing brake fluid has a dry boiling point of over 530 degrees F, far exceeding DOT 4 standards. Mixes with any other DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid. Super Blue absorbs moisture very slowly, so you don't have to change it as often as many high-performance fluids. Great for your street car that sees weekend track duty. Metal can, one liter.

Castrol SRF is hands down the best brake fluid you can buy. Many many top sportscar racing teams use it.

Many, many teams use fluids they get for free........not to say the fluids in question are not good.

Frankly, I have been racing for over 25 five years and have yet to find a brake fluid that makes that big a difference. Best thing with fluid is use a DOT 4 and change it religiously every six months......in anythingthat moves and has to stop.....(as oppossed to some space craft that move but do not have to stop..... )

Note...do not challenge my racing experience, you will be treated to a rather lengthy bragging post......

I'll question your racing career cause it sounds like you wan't to tell it anyway I've got a father who has 40+ years and counting in racing so I'm not just regurgitating internet info.

Obviously the cheaper fluids will work just fine for certain applications. If you don't boil the fluid with Motul then there isn't a reason spending the extra $40 to just say you run SRF. Some people need it, in which case that's the best you can buy.

SRF is great for racing, but I heard that they are relatively corrosive compared to the Motul or ATE. It's probably a better idea to stick to the Motul or ATE for road use and track days.

Maybe you've heard of or raced against Bill Scott. My dad was his mechanic a long time ago in Formula Vee, back when he whooped up on Nikki Lauda. Also partners with Scott at Summit Point for many years.
