Finally, Custom New Wheels for my MINI

It took a while, but I finally found a set of wheels I liked and just ordered them. I paid a little more, but they'll be the first set for the MINI by this company and are being custom made as we speak in brushed aluminum 18" with painted inner spokes color matched to my car. He's a pic:

AMPR,

Very nice two piece rims. Any more detailed info-
18x8"?
weight per rim? Offset?
What tires are you planning to use? 225/35-18?
How much for a set of four rims?

Thanks.

Minihune,

The wheel is an 18X8". The estimated weight is right around 16 lbs per wheel with an offset of 40 or 42, I don't remember. I'm planning on running on 225/35-18's but am still undecided on the tires.

Price was $2,700 for all four.

There isn't, but since they're custom there can be if want. I just need to go back for color matching and can ask to have them clear coated.

Clearcoat would be good and help to protect the finish. Gotta keep those wheels clean!

What are your top choices for tires?

For overall use, street, autocross, light track or driving events many choose S-03.

In Max Performance summer class at tirerack-
Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position S-03 for $198 each
Goodyear Eagle F1 DS-G3 for $182 each
Yokohama AVS sport for $198 each
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 for $234 each $50 rebate offer
A good tire test from tirerack for the above tires-
http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=EZ3&url=/tires/tests/mi_ps2_nextGen.jsp

And in Ultra High perf summer class at tirerack-
Yokohama Parada Spec-2 for $162 each (harsher riding and noisier for daily use).

Minhune,

Glad you & kenchan mentioned the clear coating, definitely having them clear coated. At this point I think I'll be sticking with the Yokohama AVS's for overall use and use the stock wheels (also Yokohama AVS's) for autocross, light track and any other driving events. I've thought about switching to S-03's so fortunately still have a few weeks to think about it.

1. You paid too much for the set.
2. an 18X8 with a 40mm offset.... you have rubbing issues, if your lowered... you will definatly having rubbing issues.

1. Since I'm having these custom made I disagree with you.
2. See # 1 above.

AMPR - since you are paying a pretty good price on those wheels already,
it might be better to have them powder coated with gloss finish.

For wat it's worth, Im running on GS-D3's and I think I like them better
than my S03's for its comfort and no tramlining on the streets.

2700 for custom?? doesn't sound right to me.
For that amount of money, you should be able to create your own design. To give you a sense on I way say this is outrageous, if you goto Body Coddington you can get a set of 18X8 Billet Rims for 522.50 a peice. These are made when you order the rim and you can have them powder coated painted or whatever finish you want... that's still only 2000...

And as I said if your tire is a 40 offset your going to rub, wether it's custom or not that offset is not going to work properly.

You certainly are entitled to your opinion, but frankly I don't recall asking you to pay for my wheels. If I'd wanted Coddington's, or any other wheel for that matter I would have gotten them. So I'm purchasing a set of wheels that, again, are being custom made with the right offset so they WON'T rub and are what I want, not coddingtons. And since this is where we MINI enthusiasts gather when we're not out enjoying our MINI's I thought I'd share.

I was just explaining my post i was not implying for you to purchase coddingtons. Also, if you going to be getting the custom rims, you should find out what offset they are so you don't give incorrect information. All i was trying to do was warn you that a 40+ off set on 18x8 will rub.

Everbody has there own opinion if you don't like mine... then just ignore me.

NA

As far as the offset goes I'm sure you're right. Unfortunately, I don't remember the offset. I'm planning to add a brake kit while avoiding any rubbing so they measured the MINI and plan to re-measure it a couple more times before they run the wheels.

Thanks for the input...I'll try not to ignore you too much.

DPE Engineering is a quality wheel. Just like HRE, Fikse, and Iforged.

I would love to get a set of those. I see a lot of Bimmers running DPE's.

I love em. :D :D

Discodan,

Try the following, Ask for Fabrizio or Carl and tell them Albert sent you.
http://www.ef1motorsports.net/ or you can call them at Tel: 562-424-3378

They do GREAT suspension work and are who I had install my coilovers & sway bars. They're also a major distibutor of DPEngineering wheels and known mostly for BMW (soon MINI), Mercedes and other similar high end vehicles.

dang these people are really trying to rain on your parade!

just kidding. i think the wheels look soo good. and i disagree with NA say you paid too much for them. a lot of people see these 800 dollar a set wheels and then all of a sudden think thats a standard. i was looking at wheels for my mr2 that are well over what you paid for yours, and you are having custom work done to them. i think they look awesome! and PLEASE PLEASE keep us updated with pictures...

M&C,

See attached, all 5 spoke to 4 lug. It's a no brainer, really.
