Dirty White Wheel Syndrome

White wheels look great as long as they are clean. However, they very quickly develop a dirty black break dust cover.

I have heard from the Mini Dealer that there is some sort of after market product that you can purchase to direct the break dust away from the wheel.

If anyone has heard of this product, I would very much like to know where I can get it.

Hi mc64 and welcome to NAM!

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to divert teh dust away. I've heard very BAD things about dust shields as they trap heat.

What you can do is replace the pads with low dust ones. Consensus on NAM seems to point to EBC Green Pads.

Good luck!

Thanks. This seems to be great forum. Sounds like I should stay away from dust covers.

Any idea of where I can find the EBC Green Pads?

Greetings,

I have a Blk/Wht '04 MCS with white wheels. Now with just over 3K miles I have found that the brake dust has diminished a bit. I have also applied a good coat of wax to the wheels and use a dedicated wheel cleaner from Griots Garage(www.griotsgarage.com) to clean the wheels when I wash the car, which is usually every week. I have found that the combination of these things has made the wheels much easier to keep looking good. As mentioned here different barke pads are also an option...............................mgg

Try Wheel Wax...but the biggest helpers are EBC Green Stuff brake pads!

Those brake dust diverters are evil - they don't let the brakes cool down, which is very bad, of course.

I use Orange Blast from Greased Lightning on my white wheels about ever other week and have no problems. Just do not inhale the stuff!

Definitely, EBC Greenstuff brake pads will eliminate more dust than anything else. In addition, I have used a brake dust barrier, a spray that can be found at cragercarcare.com which helps even further. Simple Green is a supermarket product that's wonderful for cleaning wheels.

EBC Green Pads it is! It just put the Green pads on last week on the front axle. I still kept the original pads on the rear axle. It is just amazing. The front wheel are still nice and white, while the rear wheels have turned all black (after a week of driving).

The Green Pads squeak a little more than the OEM pads, but they bite well, and they produce basically no dust. Highly recommended... (if you want to keep your white wheels white).
