Winter tire recommendation for the 17" S-Lites?

I have 16" wheels with summer perf. tires and want to use my 17" stock S-lites as my winter wheels.
A search on TireRack for the MCS only revealed a Pirelli for about $146 per tire (which is too much for my purposes).

Any recommendations for a solid and fairly low-cost winter tire for this 17" wheel? And what is the best size to get? I live in NYC area so there is some, but not too much snow.

Thanks.

I think for the price of 17" snow tires+mounting, you could just get 15" snows mounted on steel wheels from Tire Rack.

Such a package would only run about $550 or so, I forget how much it was for me last year...but it was around that.

I got Dunlop M2s. They are "winter performance" as opposed to the Blizzaks which are really for more heavy duty snow driving. My commute is basically all highway though so I decided against heavy duty snow for more performance on dry pavement.

215/45/17 Blizzak WS50, its a wider tire, so I go for the best snow
and ice grip.

I run the Pirelli Wintersport 240 in 205/45-17 for snow. It's good in the snow, excellent in the wet, and is downright scary during high-speed braking (tread squirm). If you can fit a 215/45-17, then look into the Bridgestone LM-22 or LM-25 (new?)
