Lightweight 15" wheels for Wilwood 11.75" brake kit?

I have the Wilwood 11.75" brake kit on my '04 MCS.

I'm looking for the lightest weight 15" wheel that I can put on there.

I know Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 (13.2 pounds) fits. Not sure if spacers are needed.

Ideally, I would have gone with SSR Comps (8.8 pounds), but they don't fit. :-(

Any other 15" wheels fit that are 13.2 pounds or lighter?

Have you checked the Kosei K1's? I think they are available in a 15x7 and meet your weight requirement.

The SSR Comp in 15" are about $270 apiece and weigh about 9 lbs each.

The Kosei K1 TS in 15x7 is about 10.6 lbs, $150 each but in 38mm offset.

AK Monza 15x6.5 are about 11-12 lbs each and $105-110 each.

Enkei RPF-1 in 15" are about $185 each and weigh less than 10 lbs...

Lots of good cheap options that (IMHO) look a lot better than the Team Dynamics wheels and weigh less, too.

Check out the Tire Rack, Webb Motorsports, and good-win racing.

I think you can also get nippon F-2s in 40mm offset, 15x6.5 and 15x7 weighing about 12 lbs each for less than $300/set (ebay).

Thanks guys, but the Kosei K1/TS won't fit. Tire Rack sells those, and Alex said they have no 15s for me.

Alex says the SSR Comps 16" wheels will fit the Wilwood 11.75" brakes. They weigh 11.0 pounds, which is more than 2 pounds less than the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.

So here's a different question:

Should I just go with the 16" SSR Comps and be done with it? Will the bigger, but lighter, SSR Comps give me better autocross performance than the smaller, but heavier, Team Dynamics Pro Race 1?

The 45 series tire in 16" (I.e. falken azenis 215/45-16) will give you better cornering response than the 50-series tire in 15" (205/50-15). BUT the 15" wheel/tire has a smaller diameter, which will help you more overall. A 15" tire in 205/50-15 will almost always weigh less than the 215/45-16 tire. That said, the reduced weight with 15" (esp. if you go with 15" SSRs and stock size brakes) will somewhat reduce the need for bigger brakes.

For serious auto-x I'd go with the smaller and lighter 15" with more aggressive brake pads.

Then again I just bought a set of 16" Monzas with 215/45 Azenis because they were a great deal on a used set. Couldn't pass 'em up!!!

Presumably the 16" wheel/tire combo will have a larger overall diameter, loosing the lower gearing effect of the smaller wheel, but a lighter weight (unsprung comma rotating comma mass) offers a greater benefit in acceleration, braking, and suspension response (and in theory, reduced wear). Besides, the shorter gearing gained by the smaller wheel is offset by a reduction in mph for each gear (potentially more shifting required).

I would worry more about weight than diameter. TireRack might have mounted weights for both options, but be sure it includes air in the tires.

I bought the Wilwood 11.75" kit. I test fit a TDR Pro Race 1 15" at Randy Webb's. Lots of clearance. The SSR 16s probably have more.

I don't know if they'll fit over the brake kit, but the Rota Slipstreams come in 15x7 for about $135 a piece and weigh around 13lbs.

What class are you running? STS ? Less unsprung weight is always better.

SM. But I wouldn't say that I'm out there trying to win my class, I'm mostly just trying to beat my brother-in-law in his MCS, also in SM class.

SM 15.4.A. Wheels of any diameter, width, or offest may be used.

I'm not sure of the biggest size you can fit width wise, but you want the most rubber you can get on the ground.

Check out the SM Forum.

I went with 15" SSR Comps with Hoosiers

After a friendly NAMer told me that his SSR Comps fit over his Wilwoods with 5mm spacers, I called Alex @ Tire Rack and went for it.

I now have 15" SSR Comps, 5mm spacers, and Hoosier tires for the track. They clear over the Wilwood brakes!

Thanks for all the help,
Dan

I'm pretty sure OZ Superleggras in 15"s will fit. I have a set for my R Compounds and am planning to do the Willwood kit in the future. I think the OZs run 10.6lbs.

Quick update: I had a track day yesterday with this setup, and everything worked out fine. It wasn't too hard to change the wheels and the brake pads at the track. The Wilwood race pads really grip when you're coming into the corners!

Two caveats:

1) The Wilwood brakes hit my wheel balancing weights. The brake caliper basically dug a groove into the soft lead of the wheel weights. No harm done. I may just leave that be or try to have the weights moved towards the inside of the car so they miss the brake calipers. Keep that in mind.

2) Remember to re-torque your lug nuts after running a few laps!
