winter tires on lowered MCS
Can anyone recomend a performance winter tire in 16" (I'm planning to get the R83 Mini wheel 6.5" wide, don't know the offset). My JCW has Eibach springs. I did try a 15/205/60 and they rubbed when I had weight in the back or did spirited driving.Would 16/195/55 rub?
Thanks in advance for any info.

I like the R-84s, they are lighter by 2.5 lbs each. But they are both very attractive. The stock tire size for those wheels is 195/55/16, so you should have no problems.
You're in Texas? Or is that just your name? What do you mean by winter performance tires? Are you expecting to drive in snow?

No, Canada,West Coast, but might do some driving up to Whistler (mountains)...When the forum asked for a username,I looked around the house and saw that name on one of my guitar amps, hence "Texascrude".
Yes, style 84 is cool, so is 87...haven't decided yet...I'll have to do some searching for 195/16/55, not sure if there is a big selection, not like 205's anyway.

Are you strictly using these for winter tires? If so, the R-87 would be a good choice, having a more narrow footprint. Not sure what tire size would be appropriate for it. You could contact the Tire Rack to get some ideas. If you're going to use the same wheels for summer, and just change tires, I'd stick with the R-83s or R-84s.
lot15 mentioned in another thread that he was pleased with the Pirelli 190 Snowcontrol Winter tires. At this time, through the Tire Rack, you can only get them for 15" wheels.

Blizzaks are always popular for snow.
I bought take-offs from my dealer, the 15" holies with all season Continental Touring Tires. They worked well for me last winter, and we had quite a bit of snow.

I've used the same set of 205/50-16 Artic Alpins on my stock X-lites for the past two winters and they are back on car again for winter #3.
First winter, stock suspension.
Second winter, SPAX coilovers and autocross alignment (never bother to change as it was still working fine).
Now, PSS9s and autocross alignment (-2.2deg camber front, -1.8deg rear) The car is set at the middle of Bilsteins recommended range, which gives me 2.5" of ground clearance measured at the middle of the front air dam (the lower one directly under the radiator, which is the lowest spot on the car). IIRC, that is about 1 3/4" lower than stock.
I have never experienced rubbing with any of the above setups. I have driven hard enough to get all four tires to break away, but generally I'm much nicer to these tires as they aren't intended to deal with that level of abuse.
If you are rubbing, the camber settings may be the difference.
