Snow Tires

Looking to get a set of steelies with snow tires and TPMS sensors. I have been looking at the usual places and only see pretty expensive packages. Its a basic 2012 Mini Cooper and is my daughters so I would like her to be safer in the winter with snows but my budget is small. Don't need anything fancy or speed rated. Just a basic set for 3 or 4 months. I can change them and store them and program the sensors.

Any good sites other than tire rack and tire buyer? Thanks

You can get a set of Sumitomo Ice Edge 175/65R15's (factory MINI size) for about $62/tire incl shipping and set of 4 new wheels from ECS... free shipping if you buy them individually...or give them a call and see what you'll do... you'd need to buy a $46.70 wheel and a $4 sticker or o-ring, or the oil filter you need etc... as they have a $49 min for free ship...

Put 2 or four together and the online system will not give you free shipping.

nice to have new wheels to mount these to... you'll be into them for about $450 wheels/tires... and they will be genuine mini ta boot !

This shows the factory wheels/tires.

Keep an eye on your local Craig's list. Folks often seem to sell a car & leave the snows cluttering up the garage. You may find a good bargain.

Thanks, I called ESC and got 4 for less than $200 with free shipping and tax included. Good call on the ask, they were going to charge shipping until I mentioned I could buy one at a time and then they took off the shipping charge. Saved me a ton.

Found some tires local at a good price and the TPMS for less than $100 with good reviews.

Also, I did look on Craigslist but nothing there for me without a couple hours of driving. The risk is too high for that expense on fuel for a truck and the time. Thanks a ton!

Feel a lot better having a new driver on snows for the winter.

Good work with ECS... I always had good luck with them on wheels when I call in ... glad that worked for you 🤙

4 new dedicated snow tires for $100 ??

what brand?

remember that most snow tires are no longer optimal at around half tread... the traction comes from the top part of the rubber ... also, on used tires... especially winter tires... they can be old tires that were bought many seasons ago.... and the traction suffers because of that ... I’d not buy any snow tire more than 4 years old according to the date code on the tire.

Also... If you wash the wheels with gegreaser and hit them with a few good coats of spray wax in a warm room that will
go a long way towards keeping the rust off
the wheels ... the paint is
pretty thin on factory steelies.

Yeah that was a misleading sentence. Found the sensors for less than a hundred. The tires I ordered new locally. Thanks for the tip on the rust. Will do.
