Fix-a-Flat

Anyone actually use this stuff? I noticed a lot of people are carrying it around with non-runflats.

What did your tire guy say about cleaning the stuff out? Did you have to get new stems? How much more using the gunk was it to get the tire repaired? Just wondering, Thanks.

Just make sure to tell the tire guys that the tire has the gunk in it.

Tire guys generally hate having to clean it out. . . . .

And whenever the tires are off the rims, you might as well get new valves since they only cost a couple bucks. . . .

also, don't keep it in too long, it can harden on the bead seat and gets to be a real pain to clean out for a good seal.

I used it

And frankly, I'd rather live with run flats vs ever use it again.

As far as I'm concerned once put in a tire the tire is shot. You'll get home OK but I doubt you'll ever get the wheel/tire to balance again. While the stuff was in the wheel the balance was so out of whack I was afraid to go over 50. Would it ever get completely cleaned out? I dumped the tire and cleaned the wheel.

I may move to non-runflats in the future, and carry this stuff. But will expect to replace any tire I ever am forced to apply it to.

When I bought my Falken 512's the tire place said to make sure if I do use it to let them know when I bring the tire in and don't leave it in there long. They said the tire should be fine if I do those 2 things.

Another thing to remember is that they don't seem to distribute evenly
on low-profile tires...so 50 is the smallest profile I would use fix-a-flat
unless it is a total emergency.

Under the right conditions the stuff does work. I wouldn't use it unless I really had to. It is doesn't repair the tire. It, hopefully, allows the tire to hold air for the trip to a tire store. That's all. If you don't want to throw the tire away it needs to be cleaned and patched asap. It's a messy job. I cleaned the wheel myself. The tech told me never to forget to have a new vavlestem installed. It did save me the expense of a new tire but, what a pain in the a$$.

I carry FAF, but I prefer towing insurance and a cell phone.

Thanks for the replys. I had a screw in my run flats a couple of months ago and was wondering how things would play out when I get new non-run flats.

What do they clean it out with, water?

For the MCS non-runflat users, you might consider this: http://www.ultraseal.com

Seals non-sidewall punctures up to 1/4", approved by US Postal Service for fleet use. Does NOT impede tire/wheel balance or create a mess inside the wheel.

Well known in the UK, just getting started here.

Wow. I really like what it has to stay about stranding clot replair, sounds brighter than "slime" we all know and love. Being that its based on heat of the tire, brings me to the hidden concern, when a coating retains heat, it rasies the tire's temperature. Heat buildup is the #1 point for failure.(reminds me of sealx genseal, nailgard) Note the key exepmplefied scenarios are low speed. Deflection + increased speed = higher heat.

What about this?

http://new.minimania.com/web/SUBTYPE..._Inventory.cfm

Also, my BMW motorcycle had an excellent tire puncture kit of the plunger/plug type that worked VERY well.
