225/45/17 Questions
edited: Just bought a set of OZ Superleggras on Ebay
Hello,
I'll be picking up my '05 MCS on March 25th and will be fitting 17"x7" OZ Superleggras (37mm offset) I was going to order my tires from the TireRack but can't figure out what size to go for. I ran Yok ES100s in 225/45/17s on my last MCS w/stock suspension but this time around I'll be upgrading to a set of H-Sport springs. Will the same tire size work ok? I think I'll run the ES100s again as they are fairly inexpensive for the street. I take all my aggression out on the track with my 225/50/15 R Compounds so I don't need the ultimate sticky street tire. What do you all think? I'm just worried about the rubbing issue. i think I may have to shave my rear fenders anyway once I lower the suspension to accommodate my R Compounds. Also anyone run the Yokohama AVS Sports? Any help is appreciated.
thanks
Amit

i run the avs es 100 225 45 17's on the street and some dunlop R compound on the track that are also 225 45 17 unshaved. i would stray away from both. the street tires rub with more than two people in the car. on the way to the track with all my stuff in the car the dunlops rub like crazy. on the track at VIR there are a few places that they rub also. i use ugly amounts of camber in the rear to minimize this but have just learned to deal with it.

Since you're already planning to dremel the fenders using the Alex-technique,
you'll be fine running the 215/45/17's I think.

Do you have a link to the Alex fender trim technique?

225 will rub. I have run 225 wide race tires with a decent ammount of rub, even with spacers.
My own personal opinion is to stay away from the AVS es100's they went from new to bald in under 10K miles... Mabye I need to get my foot off the gas, but most of the time I get 20K out of tires....

my 225's only rub in the rear. i use heavy rear camber to minimize it. it still rubs some just inside the fender well between 1 o'clock to 2:30. it is unseen outside but visible if you remove the wheel. i wore down my yoko's a good bit on the track so they don't rub now. my new dedicated track tires still have lots of tread and rub lots on the track and on the trip to and from the track.

Thanks for everyone's input, I think I'll be going for a 215/45/17, this seems pretty safe. I may have to trim my fenders a bit. My R compounds are pretty wide and tall at 225/50/15. I used to get a little bit of rubbing under load on my old car w/stock suspension, so I figure with the H-Sports making the car sit lower I'll have more of a problem. What are recommendations for camber adjustments? I understand the concept of how camber adjustments help but have no clue as to what would suit me for track and street driving with my two wheel sizes. I track my car about 8 times a year and it is my daily driver, in the winter i even put on my 15" snows. Here are my tire/wheel size, any camber help would be appreciated along with product recommendations:
Street:
OZ Superleggras 17"x7" 37mm offset on 215/45/17
Track:
OZ Superleggras 15"x7" 37mm offset on 225/50/15 R compounds
Snow:
MINI 7-hole 15"x5.5" 45mm offset on 195/55/15
thanks

The reason I ask is because I'm getting the falken azenis rt-615's but they don't make a 215/45/17. I don't want to get a 205 and I also don't want a 40 sidewall so the next best size they have available is 225/45/17 .

Seems not too many choice of that type, only one found, from Nitto.
