A good set of spinners will hide the thing!

Definately look funky, but imagine what the ol' stage coach drivers thought of those new fangled rubber tires.
But hey, if they perform well and give a good ride, why not?

I think the actual tires that will go into production if they end up using these have sidewalls, I think these are just a way to demonstrate how they work.

Every racing organization that I've ever seen has very specific tire rules, I can imagine that it'd be hard to get this past tech in any serious series without the rules being changed specifically to allow this tire.

Also, racing is all about performance. The purpose of this tire is apparently to provide high performance with a comfortable ride. So unless there is some other advantage to this tire that we're not seeing (light weight, doesn't over heat, or whatever) I don't think racers would be interested.

I also agree that the production versions would probably have sidewalls to stop debris from damaging the inner "spokes". Also i've had mud pack a wheel before and it took 30 minutes of driving with a really bad imbalance to clear it out.

On another forum someone brought out a really interesting situation. What if you park in a puddle overnight and then it freezes, your stuck like chuck!

I don't think this would ever work well for performance racing because how would you ever adjust your tire pressures to alter your cars handling?

The other big question is how much do these cost to manufacture? Less than current tires?

Because all car tech. filters down from racing, the real test as it were, don't these tweels have to prove some measure of worth on the track first. Not that I'm saying the idea is bad.A few posts back someone made mention about how air filled tires were seen as strange compared to solid wheels years ago.Funny how things go round and round

You could adhere baseball cards to your calipers and make a cool
noisemaker, just like when we were kids w/ our bikes

No, I disagree. all car tech certainly does not come down from the track! I would even say MOST car tech comes from creative solutions to try to achieve comprable performance for much less cost. Some tech filters from track. See my post. #25 I bet these are cheaper to produce and sell for more money

But I still want to know if I'll be able to use my current wheels with these tires.

I don't think there's any way. Have you ever seen a traditional wheel without a tire on it? I don't know how you mount something like this to something like that.

Funny - I just got an email about this today with all the pics!

About the sidewall - I wonder if it would work. I mean, if they expect the Tweel to be flexible, like in this pic:

Then the sidewall is going to have to bulge or move somewhere also. Of course, who ever thought this design would be feaseable?! So who knows..

SWEET:

Braaaap - BRAAAAAP!

I'd hate to have someone just come along and SNIP a couple thingies inside my Tweel and then have it rotate funny.

I want to see the video of the A4 cruising with these things!
