How to ship wheels and tires?

Any recommendations on how to properly ship a wheel and/or tires?
Carriers, boxes, etc.

Thanks

Andre

At a minimum, double box them. That's how they ship wheels to the dealers. Double box them and ship via Fed-X. They are the best. Even Fed-X ground if not in a hurry.

Its even easier. The minimum (for FedEx Ground atleast) is to use cardboard to cover the holes and then tape it together. The cardboard keeps other boxes from becoming lost in the center. Works for mounted tires too, just use a little more card board to protect the rim. You also have declared values to protect against loss or damage.

You can plastic strap two unmounted tires together and cover each opening with a cardboard disk. clear tape the address label on.

For mounted tires on rims you can cover each side with a cardboard disk and if needed for more protection add some cardboard around the edges and tape it all up.

Can't speak for FedEx, but UPS will charge you a $5 fee for any package not fit inside a box. Banded and wrapped in plastic; $5 handling fee.

I shipped wheel/tire set to an eBay buyer with one 24 x24 cardboard(at any decent box store) on each side and taped. The buyer said they arrived in perfect condition. There was no surcharge from FEDEX ground and it was cheaper than UPS. If you're shipping wheels alone, I agree with the double boxed method...lmaybe even some bubble wrap thrown in.

However, the tire I ordered from an unnamed vendor came to me via UPS dropped into a clear plastic trash bag....

I shipped my 16" plizzaks (set of 4) for $36 at USPS. Just ship them in pairs.
