Is there tire performance & longer tire life @ $100/per ?

Are there any tires in the $90-$100 range which not only perform well, but last longer (than 26K) in my environment? As I now have a defective (split/out-of-round) Run-Flat, I’m looking to buy a new set of tires at about 8K earlier than I had expected and Michelin PS-2’s, price wise, are simply out of my affordable range at this time

I live in Mendocino, on the California North-Coast, and drive almost exclusively highway 1. The usual conditions are mostly sun, rain, and fog, no snow with lots of hills, curves, turns and cut-backs. Perfect for my MC. No freeways, just 2 lanes of black pavement with a variety of textures, smooth to rough. The local tire shop says to expect half the normal tire life out here.

Thanks / la.

When I asked Alex from Tire Rack to suggest something with excellent grip, quiet, good in the wet and good tread life, he suggested the Avon Tech m500. I can't speak for the life of the tire yet as I only have 1300 miles on them, but in both dry and wet the grip is very good and they are a very quiet tire as well. I'm sure Alex himself will see this and chime in if he has other suggestions.

Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S's

They rock.. I've got them on my 16" Cooper S wheels. I'm rolling the dice on not having a spare. Excellent dry and superb wet handling - an amazing tire. My brother has the same set of tires on his 2004 VW R32.

I've got my eye on those Avon's...A_Sr

I was wondering though if some of the others Like the Proxes T1R's, Potenza RE 750's, or P Zero Nero's had a longer life. How about the Cooper Zeon 2XS's? Have you heard anything on them?la.

I ran the RE750's on my M3. I was really pleased with them. The performance and wear were both quite nice. Then I put the Michelin PS2's back on and found out what I was missing. The performance difference was significant but only if you were really going after it.

I think you'd like the RE750. I'd choose them over the Avon.

I'm thinking about getting BF Goodrich g-force sports. The tread isn't very pretty, but they're a nice compromise between performance and touring.

Performance, YES PLEASE!!! & good tire wear as well.

I understand Goodrich T/A KD's are actually manufactured by Michelin, are the G-Force Sports made by Michelin as well? Also, on the Yoko AVS 100's, I recently read they are being replaced by the Advan model due out later this year. What I like about the Advan's is that it appears Yokohama will be producing that tire in the 195/55R16 size, but I don't think I've got the time to wait for them... On performance points such as wet/dry grip, noise, and so forth I have found good reviews siting great performance on several tires at the $100 range from others here and elswhere, but again its "tire wear performance" I'm equally interested in as well. My first set of run-flats went 26K, now my second set are at 18K... Finally, I have no doubt eMINI, that your PS2's performed for you at that next level. I really do appreciate all of your responses though guys, thanks. Do keep it going! la.

Tires.

I run 215/35/18 Yokohoma Prada Spec2. They have a 300 Wear rating and they grip great. Road noise wise very quiet for now - well the tire is too new to notice but I am sure if I rotate often enough - they will stay quiet for a while.

I read about the Hankook K106 and the K104 which has a 340 Wear Rating and they are about $85.00 and $95.00 respectively.

You can try those. I don't use run flats - I hate them. I have a new set of Goodyear Run Flats on the S-Lites and don't care for them - so I upgraded the rims and tires just this weekend.

Some people are paranoid with not having a spare - I just got use to it because I have an 03 M3_CONV and it doesn't have a spare either.

Good luck with your choices.

Lowell,

In that price range and for your 16" wheels for general street use consider-

At tirerack.com
Avon Tech M550 M/S 205/55-16
Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S 205/50-16

At Edgeracing.com in 205/50-16
Falken Ziex ZE-512
Toyo Proxes 4

(More details in the PM I sent you).

What tire do I go with ...

I just ordered the BF Goodrich g-force KDW-2. Reviews look awesome and now have them better than the Avon M500's. They go on the car new week. I went with 215 40 17's which will look good with the Hamann HM4's. Here's a pic. Will get some pic together once they're on the car.

The KDW-2 is on my sort list for tires next time around. Please let us know how they work out.

Toyo Proxes4

I have the Proxes 4 from discount tire. I am probably harder than anyone else on this forum on tires. I live at the end of ten miles of dirt road. I have been quite pleased with the Toyos. They grip evenly and are wearing well as well. I recommend them for M&S type driving.
