AAGGHHH How safe is 3 of 4 studs on wheel??
My superleggeras finally showed up today and I decided to slap them on! WEll, I over torqued (hand torqued and by kicking down on the lug wrench) and the lug bolt snapped in half. The nearest store is ~4 miles away...How safe is it to travel w/ only 3 of 4 studs on the wheel?

Only 85 Ft lbs. Easy with the kicking. It should be ok though for the short distance. No hard breaking or accelerating.
Just try not think what would happen if it did come off. I talked with a guy at the dragon this year that didn't tighten his lugs and had the wheel fall off. . Messed up the inner fender, hood, and rotor.

Its very not safe. Losing one on a 5 lug wheel is bad enough but on our 4 lug wheels its just not a good thing. That being said, I will agree with those who say you can drive on it if it truly is only 3-4 miles away. In doing so you should probably do a couple things. First, go as slowly as you possibly can and brake WWAAAYY ahead of time. You want to keep the forces on the remaining 3 as small as possible. Second, keep your hazards on both because of the speed you'll be traveling at and because if something should go terribly wrong, hopefully people will be smart enough to not be riding your bumper when it does. Good luck, Be careful.

My old Fiat 124
regularly lost lug nuts, and some of the threads on the hubs were stripped once. Make sure they are tight (but not too tight, you already found out what can happen there), and then just put over to the store and get them. No drag racing, no slalom courses! Just be good, and you'll be fine!
