Tire size question
All,
This is my tire and wheel setup. 17 in BBS RGR's. I am running 205 45 R 17 AVS 100's. I get some wheel rub during track days only.
I want to try some Falken Azenis. The closest they come in are 215/45 R17's.
Are there any other tires that you all think would be good for track tires only and also options for occasional track use?
Alex,
Do you know the offset on the BBS RGR 17?
Thanks,
ARLY

(There are two prices ($553/$567) for RGR rims in 17x7 at tirerack.com- not sure what is the difference)
215/45-17 tires are wider by 10mm and have a larger outer tire diameter than 205/45-17. So I would expect that rubbing would be more- even with street use. What suspension do you have? If you have stock suspension then the RGRs with +38mm offset is at the "limit" for rubbing as is.
Perhaps a smaller diameter tire like 215/40-17 (rougher riding on the street) would fit without as much chance for rubbing.
Street tires good for track- been discussed at length before
On a budget the Falken Azenis sport (old Rt 215 and new Rt 615 versions) and Hankook Ventus RS2 Z212 (both good for street and can be used on the track) -see Edgeracing.com for Falkens and Hankook.
On a BIG budget-
Toyo Ra1 or Michelin Pilot sport cups will work on the track but wear fast for street use. (michelins and more at tirerack.com, Toyos at edgeracing.com)
Otherwise check out Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 or Bridgestone Potenza S-03 for Very good street use and some track use.
