Road noise - Pirelli performance stock runflats vs Yoko ES100
#2
The noise of the Yoko AVS ES100s is definitely greater than the Pirelli run-flats. To me it was worthwhile for the better handling and small increase in ride comfort. I say small increase 'cause my car is lowered and rather stiff anyway. You may have more increased ride comfort if you're not lowered. Plus I have a Magnaflow exhaust, which is noisy anyway.
I got 215/45/17, had minor rubbing the first day, which went away, never to return. This on the S-lites and I'm on my second set of Yokos.

I'm only doing it for the greater acelleration. The Pirellis are extremely quiet to me now, so a little more noise won't bother me - I drive with the radio up and windows down to begin with. Even if they were like roaring jet engines I would still try them, I just wanted some data - thank you!

Past experience has taught me to keep the Pirellis rotated every 4-5k or they will become scalloped in the back and very noisy. This can be true for any tire of similar tread design and construction. My S-D3s will get rotated this weekend, this will be roughly 4000 miles for them in their original positions. Note: if you are looking for a quiet tire with very good grip and smooth ride, these are tough to beat.

Yes, there was a marked increase in noise with the AVS ES100s over the Pirelli run-flats. Well worth it to me, I am quite satisfied with the Yokos, great tire, great price point.
eMINI, I'm glad you didn't take offense to the noise or the ride. Nor did I object to sliding around VIR in your souped up 5 car.
