Tires wearing to quickly for my wallet....

I am on my second set of Pirelli M&S 215/40/18s.................The first set wore down in like 9000 miles & this set is not to far behind.....I want some recommendations for some tires that seem to hold up bit longer. Although I have hit some major curbs/holes & the Pirellis definately take a good beating where I think most other tires would of blown out...........

Any autocross events or track days in that 9000 miles? If so, then that mileage doesn't seem out of bed with my own experience.

My friends M3 with Falken ZE512 or whatever the all seasons are wearing pretty quickly since he's done a couple of autocrosses and does some canyon driving.

So if that's your kind of driving, then 9k seems normal.

My Kumho MXs probably have about 12k on them and are due for another set in 3k miles. I haven't autox it and I don't drive canyons very often although I do hit a few local corners pretty hard several times a week.

yeh, what you need to do is use the brakes a little before the turns.

I drive on GS-D3's and have had them on for over 11k miles...but
they still look pretty new. I drive pretty spiritedly on occasion.

I GOT 11k-13k a set....

But now I have camber plates, and that seems to help a lot with wear in the front......

I'm at about 6k on the latest set of GS3Gs, and I'm hoping to set a new tire milage record (for me) in the Mini! I'm about half way there.

9k seems a bit low unless you track (with stock front suspension, a good track weekend with trash a set of tires, at least the front outer tread gets shot, and with it your turn-in!) But then 18 inch wheels will be more punishing. I also thing they'd benefit from camber plates better!

The falken Zeix's have lasted me a good 18,000. I have done a drivers education coarse and 2 autocrosses on them and they still are not worn out. They do wear alot when they get hot, but hardly at all on the road.

Is mileage your only criteria? I ask because there are always trade off's. Usually the softer the ride the quicker the wear, the stickier the grip the quicker the wear. A number of factors contribute to wear and depending upon your criteria the wear you are getting may be accurate. I think the first question you need to ask is what type of ride are you looking for than what type of mileage. Will you do any autocrossing, any track time will these tires be used for both venues, stuff like that. I have the Evo AVS 100's I love them, great grip softer ride and very reasonably priced, but they don't rank high in the wear catagory. Everything is a trade off so lets start off by listing what your first three top characteristics in tires need to be Also you should ask Alex at the tire rack he will definately have some great suggestions, but you need to know what your criteria is.

Are your tires wearing from the inside treads? if so you might want to
get the toe adjusted.

I was going through tires every 3k miles when I was carving through
the canyons on another car I had, but I think those were 160-180AA
tires (SP8000's). what are the ratings on your pirelli's? There are
many other tires out there that are as good or better.

Do you know the tread wear number on your tires?

My friend's set is wearing heavily on the corners. He's pretty rough on them.

Mine did too, but its because of my stupid self not knowing what pressures to run the first weekend i had them. I just happened to go to a two day driving coarse the first weekend. I would not reccommend them for slow, tight driving coarses. I have another pair on rims and tires for racing. One thing about these, is that they are great in any weather. We dont have any snow or ice down here, but in torrential downpours, they are wonderfull. The tread rating is 360, so they last a while.

My friend likes the tires and for the price you can't beat them. He pumped them up to 40psi for autocrossing and I think he left that pressure in them afterwards. It's a wonder the centers aren't worn out but with a 360 rating they are pretty durable tires.

So far 'Kenchan' is the only person who asked about your wear problem

I think before anyone can really give you good advice, you should tell us just 'how' they are wearing. If they are wearing evenly then most likely it's just the tire and the way you are driving.
