Average wear of factory runflats
I know this has been asked before but I can't find the other threads
I've got 25000 miles on my goodyear runflats that came on the car. They are pretty much gone now. Slipping all the time in the turns and in heavy braking. I'd say 75% of those miles were interstate miles and the rest have been very spirited driving miles. I was hoping to wait till I could afford superleggeras and just buy new tires then, but I don't think these are going to last much longer. How many miles did everyone else get on their runflats?
I guess I'm going to have to sacrafice style for safety
Also, can I put 205 width tires on these 16inch wheels with no problems? The only 195 width tires I can find (that do not suck) are run flats and I don't want those again.

Darkness, I have the 16-inch Dunlop Performance runflats on Wanda and changed out her first set at about 26K, even though they still had pretty good rubber left on them. I got a great deal on some take-offs when someone who bought a new MINI in FL sold his v-spokes with the Dunlops to YuccaPatrol. Yucca wanted the rims for auto-xing and I took the tires.
I'm at about 48.6K on the odo, meaning I have about 22.6K miles on the new tires, and they're still going strong. I'd say that 80% of my driving has been highway roadtrips.
Guess it just depends on one's driving-style. Even at The Dragon, I'm a smooth driver, which helps conserve the tires.

I had around 24K on mine when the fronts were completely shot -- probably another 8-10K left on the rears. And this was without rotating them (there are some threads about the never-rotate-a-FWD-car school of thought, if you're interested).
btw, I ended up replacing those tires with new runflats which arrived attached to a new MCS.

Looks like I'm going to get 25K miles
Hey. I just got my run-flats rotated today and the technician told me I have about another 5K miles left on them. That's going to put mine at 25K miles. By the way, I have rotated my tires every 5K miles and been very happy with the wear and performance. I was wondering the same thing about how long they should last since I got the news this morning.

I have 195/55 16 Dunlops with 24k miles. There is still a little tread left, but the tires have become very loud and the car rides rougher and it darts and dives over irregularities in the pavement.
To answer your question, yes, you can mount a 205/50 tire on the factory 16" wheels. A lot of people here on NAM have done just that. I'll probably be going with Toyo T1R tires in a non-run flat, 195/55VR 16 size.

How long your tires last depend on many factors including but not limited to:
Driving style
How hard you corner
How often you spin your wheels
How much performance driving you do- track/autocross/driving school
Air pressure
Wheel balancing
Tire rotation every 5000 miles
Road hazzards/cuts/damage
If you can get about 20,000 to 25,000 from a set of runflats you are doing quite well.
Many performance non runflats won't last that long ( up to 20,000 if you are good on your tires). They are just too fun to drive on.
For 16" wheels to replace runflats you might go shopping for tires that are
205/50-16 (best selection of tires that will fit stock 16x6.5" rims)
