New 16 in. replacement tire options!

FYI, just found that the new Toyo T-1R (updated version of the famed T-1S) comes in size 195/55/16. This is a V rated non-runflat tire that has a diameter of 24.3, and weighs only 18 lbs. Additionally, if you'd like to go plus one size, it is also available in 205/50/16, with a diam of 24.0 and weighs 19.4 lbs.

This may be good news for those of us who are looking for alternatives to stock runflats.

I was just thinking about this today. Actually I think about this almost every day. I am beginning to like my V-spokes (although I have been wondering how to paint them dark brown--the color of the MINI stone guards) because they are rather lightweight and innocuous looking (if I got SSR Comps they or my car might go missing). I want wider tires and believe the non-runflats would improve my car's performance. Thanks for the information on the Toyos. Too bad there doesn't seem to be a 215 wide 16" tire yet.

I too have an MCSa and wonder about installing a JCW intake.

I just recieved (from Edge racing) my T1R's in 215/40/16 at only 22.8" diam and 18 lbs. Can't weight for the wheels to arrive (Rota Slipstreams at 13.8lbs). I will loose about 14 lbs per corner and gain about 7% gearing advantage (03 MCS), plus pick up about 1/2 inch of contact patch. I am expecting fairly significant off the line and gains (possible 1 sec 0-60), better handeling, and braking, without (hopefully) to much sacrifice in ride quality over the rock hard anchor heavy run-flat/S-Lite combo.
I might actully get into 5th and 6th gear on the track now instead of just carring them around in the gear box unused. I calculate my top speed potential will still be well in excess of what our svelt airo sleek bodies will allow (over 150). I alos look forward to being able to leave my car in 6th when passing on the highway instead of having to drop to 5th. I do not mind the increased RPM at cruise as Atlanta traffic rarely allows for long period over 95 and my license could use the added insurance of hearing the engine at speed.

Wes

IB/wh 03 MCS; 15%, Giac flash, Miltex CB, Pilo CAI, Alta bar, about to be short shoed and big braked.

Please let us know your impression with the T1R's.
