You are looking for rims that are at least 15" or larger up to 20".
4x100 bolt pattern, MINI hub bore is 56.1mm
+48 mm is the stock offset for the MINI but it can varry a little down to +45
If you have the stock MC or MCS suspension you can use rims that are in the +37mm to +48mm offset range without rubbing.
If you have lowered your MINI you should look for rims that about +45mm offset although you can go to about +42mm and get only a little rubbing.
+40mm offset with a lowered suspension is likely to rub. You can minimize this chance if you install tires with a lower than stock outer tire diameter (24.4") such as the 215/40-17 for 17" rims. If you do get rubbing then you can use a dremmel tool to trim away the plastic that rubs on the inner rear wheel wells.
If you don't want to fuss with all this then talk to Alex@tirerack and visit tirerack.com and enter you have a MINI and it will give you the wheels that will fit OK so you can see the offsets that match. They assume you have stock suspension.
