Dunno yet. Am looking at replacing my 03 with a late production 06, and these would be in the equasion - providing they aren't as heavy (or worse) than the S (not so) lites.

Very nice, but I'm a sucker for a five-spoke rim!

18 inch rim weighs same as 17 inch S-lite. Bolts covered with cap. No 'extra' holes (hate 8 holes in a 4 bolt rim). Easy to clean behind.

I don't like them at all...too...I don't know - irish, or horeshoe, or something - just doesn't look 'fast' or catch the eye.

I think I need to see the new ones in person.

They look a little like the work engineering emotion's in black. Probably less so, in person.

I agree ... they have a very distinct horshoe look that just does not sit well with me ... kinda like that other wheel they have on the Special Edition MINI's

Hey folks, understand your like or dislike, but most 18's I've heard of are PIGS weight wise. These are the first MINI specific 18's I've seen that look light. I'd like to confirm this notion though.

Aside from rolling on bigger wheels (for the sake of larger wheels) going 18" offers several rubber options not available in 17" or smaller. Plus there's no issue with a BBK.

I want to keep sprung weight under control and decent looks. Horseshoe or not the new JCW appear to fit the bill. If weight weren't a concern a set of Hartge classics would be my choice.

EDIT: or if $ were no object:

Just to let you guys know the above photos were from MotoringFile. You can find out more here: http://www.motoringfile.com/2005/08/...tions_for_2006

And a polite reminder.... if you're going to post photos from other sites (especially when you don't move them to another server) it best that you give that site credit. Sorry, don't mean to sound like an *ss...

Sorry Gabe, my bad. ...Just couldn't get my freind's photo downloaded at time of post. I did post it (white car) ASAIPC. For future reference how would you suggest someone post the credit? I don't want to come off as a sleaze, nor do I want to be in breach of this website's rules. Most folks know you run a top notch enthusiast site motoringfile.com. I guess I took it for granted.

Cheers,
mc

No worries mate... the ole' photo posting thing from MF is a pet peave of mine but usually not enough to get a response out of me. But then the posting a pic without a shout-out sorta sent me over the edge. Like I said I honestly didn't mean to sound like an *ss....

Generally it's best to save the pic and put it on your server or post it in a forum's gallery area. However if you can't do either just a simple shout-out to the site where it came from is more than enough for most people.

Okay... back on topic. How about those JCW wheel eh? I like them quite a lot but still prefer my 18" Spider Spokes!

those 18's with your all black MCS are really sharp ... sporty and classy at the same time.

I am fond of the 5 and 7 spoke wheels myself... Just always that weight issue. Have an all black MCS too Can't recall, what do your JCW's weigh in at? BTW silver wheels on an all black MCS are to drool!

They're 23lbs. A good trade-off considering their incredible durability. My take is that I'd rather give up a few pounds for increaseD strength - especially considering how bad Chicago roads are. Interesting fact, despite their larger size they're also almost 2lbs lighter than the S-lites.

This is why I am actually going back to OEM wheels after bending 2 out of 4 of my Flik Wasps (not bad/repairable) ... but still driving in NYC you need serious durable wheels with good strenght.

Fascination

What is the fascination with bigger and bigger wheels?

Bling?

I know its not performance, at least from what others have written and I'm sure they know more than me about that.

If its bling, thats OK because everyone has different tastes...

But if ain't bling, then what is it?

Razor edge feel is a huge part of it. I've drive every MINI tire combination there is (many at the track) and there's no comparison to 18's.

Then there's the look of the wheel wells being filled out fully.

....
But most of the performance posts here say use 15" for xcross and 17" for track. I can't remember anyone recommending 18????

The biggest reasons for smaller wheels are typically cheaper tires and then the lighter weight (although if you're worried about weight there are plenty of larger aftermarket wheels do well on the scales). The downsides are big brake kits don't typically fit behind anything but 17s or 18s and with a larger side-wall of a smaller wheel you inevitably lose feel.

The optimal track solution I could see taking this all into account would be some light-weight 17s. But of course alot of this comes down to personal preference and cost
