Asa Ar1

I just bought an 05 MCS w/ JCW and I want to ditch the 17" stock wheels and runflats. My car is Pepper White w/ the balck roof and chrome package. As for wheels, I think I want to go with the 17" ASA AR1 in the silver finish. They seem like a nice compromise for a street car. Anyone have any feedback on these wheels (good, bad, etc.). Do they bend easy?

I also was thinking of the following tires...

Avon Tech M500 in 215 40 17
Yok AVS ES 100 in 215 40 17

I am looking for a tire for street and I don't want to spend a lot of money. In addition to a daily dirver, they will also see a few track days and maybe an autocross or two. I raced for years with BMW CR and SCCA, so I know both of these tires are a compromise for all three, but I just want something I can drive on the street and take to the track when I instruct and not have to swap tires to R Compounds.

From the TR site, it looks like the Yok is a touch wider than the Avon. Anyone have rubing issues with the stock suspension? I plan to do a new suspsnsion next year, but for the rest of this year, it's stock... or at least that's what I am telling my wife!!!

I like my Ar1's, much better than my heavy S-lites. I have the H-sport springs on and I have no rubbing at all. Tires are 205-17-45.

These wheels are very popular on the VW forums and many people like them. I personally like the looks of them!

Es100 all the way - Avon's will be baked by the track.

Thanks Alex, I will be calling you this week. I am supposed to pick up the car on Tues and once I have it, I will order the wheels and tires.

The Yok ES 100 in 215 40 17 on stock MCS w/JCW shouldn't rub I assume.

Thanks,
Vince

215/40 works with 36 psi - with an offset +42 or higher no rub!

I'm loving these wheels but there are so many others that are the same weight but just cheaper. Flik Wasps are very similar (though I can't say I know about the quality) and only $102 each. HP Designs EVO's look almost exactly the same and have an incredible finish for about $100 or so each. If they were $125 each, i'd be all over them!!!

I got the ASA AR1 wheels (silver) today from the TR and they look great on my PW/B MCS. Based on Alex's advise I had him add the Yok es100 in 215 45 17. The tires are too new to comment on yet, but better than the 17 A/S runflats!

That's Alex!

I would have loved some ASA AR 1 wheels, bu they only offer a black wheel with a polished rim.
And that is not for me. Black all
the way is the way to go.
