Ever dented a 16" SSR comp. wheel?
Has anyone ever had a 16" SSR competition wheel dented from a pothole or bad road conditions? If so, what size tire were you running?
I am considering 205/50/16 Goodyear F1's on 16x7.5's, and am curious about the durability of this set-up given the lightness of the wheels.
Any comments to the positive (hard hits taken with no damage?) would also be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi,
Yes, I've dented my SSR Comps 16x7.5s running 205/50 Goodyear GS-D3s. I got these, amongst other goodies, through The Great Randy Webb.
It was the driver's side front wheel, as I exited the road, hitting the curb and ploughing through some open field. This is a common practice here in Texas, actually, but I think I'm the first to do it in a MINI.
The dent itself was noticeable but minor, mainly on the outside lip. I tried like a madman with a deadblow hammer to correct this, but I had to take it to a qualified rim repair place... I used "Wheels America" in Houston, and it cost me around $140, if I recall... the cost of a much lesser wheel.
The tire itself appeared to have a bulge, but I smacked it with the deadblow and it has not since returned, after a thousand miles or so.
I think the hit was pretty hard, so I was impressed by the wheel's durability, considering. The most susceptible part is the outer lip, but the tire pressure still held, so I think the damage was more cosmetic than truly detrimental.

SSR durability
I've had SSR Integrals (since discontinued) on my 2000 Audi A4 for about 3.5 yrs - have hit potholes, the curb, etc. No problems at all. The discussions about SSR durability are generally from people who for whatever reason think they can crash a lightweight wheel into a curb at 30 mpg or hit a pothole that could swallow a small child and emerge unscathed. They're great wheels. I plan on a set of comps for my cooper
