hi need to know the pros and cons ( besides ride comfort)of changing my 05 mcs with 19s? need help.

 

The pros:
Looks (depending on opinion obviously),
Big brake kit can fit (depends on wheel and offset),
possibly better choice of wheels that fit your taste(??),
more predictable handling (not necessarily best, but it will be more predictable with the shorter sidewalls)

Cons can be (depending on size of tires and offset):
Harsh Ride,
Heavy weight (slower acceleration, slower braking),
Possible rubbing on arches,
More prone to pothole/bump damage,
more costly (probably),
tires that fit are limited (and again, might cost more),
limit your ability to lower your car ( almost impossible i would guess)

 

I think 19's belong on my G35C, not on my MCS.

My MCS rides on 16's. :smile:

 

killer looks! wont need to lower much since it will have that low stance look'. ..but should check how much room U have if lowering is desired.

easier to clean wheels.
will U use custom wheels or wheels that are available for ur' mini in a 19"

 

In my opinion, be sure you see some aftermarket 17s on an MCS. To me aftermarket 17s look HUGE on a mini. I had 17s on mine for a while, and they looked like the 19s and 20s you see on modified imports.

My 2 cents isnt worth the 2 cents though.....i roll on tiny 15s

 

Couldn't of said it better myself . I had 18s on my MC CVT and it was very harsh as it is. I can't image how 19s would be.

 

19's are for looks only. And they appeal only to the young and foolish. Anyone who knows anything about suspension and performance will laugh at them. Of course, if you're young and/or foolish and don't care about performance ... go for it!! You'll be the king in your class.

 

Just be sure to get the chrome ones with those spinners. They are Pimpin.

 

One word... rub. I would recommend 18s if you want larger wheels.

I say do it... Nice choice of wheels, although i personally would go with the 841R cause those wheels are beautiful. But you can never go wrong with HRE.

 

Well that will get rid of many of the cons i listed since they will openly make the wheel size to your spec. and obviously price isnt such a big factor. PLEASE DO post pics when you are done. I love HREs

 

at the risk of being Ripley-esque - it really is too much - somewhere along the way, an entire class of modder has forgotten that cars are supposed to look like they have tires too - not just rim protectors. imho, anything over 17 inches on a mini is an affectation, and I'd bet that it screws up the handling rather than enhancing it. A few months ago, one of the major mags (I think R&T) did an interesting test with a stock Porsche and one that had been "enhanced" with 19 or 20 inch rims & tires - stock was better handling.

Wouldn't it be the width and offset of the wheel, not a larger diameter that could cause rub? And of course the tire size is a separate issue.

 

I'm gonna respond just for the sake of a discussion...i dont mean to come off as "jumping on you" It's all in fun.

Who can say what's right? Many times they know their car will handle a little less well in track conditions. Knowing that their car will never be a track car, these tuners are after a certain look. This look may not agree with what you think looks best, but can you say that yours is the "correct" look? I doubt it. That's what is so great about cars, there will always be a group that is going against the grain with their creations and art. The hot rodders were doing things to their cars that were much different from what most people were doing to their cars. Look what happened to that tuning group.

Today there is a whole new group of tuners (often young...but be careful, im 20 and still roll with 15s...we arent ALL in this group). This group of tuners is doing some crazy things from 20 inch rims to installing mobile electronics that others had never thought possible. Some people will think that these things are "wrong" or "stupid", but again, those people have no right to judge and decide what is "right"

Handling may not be their ultimate goal. I would bet that a large majority will never see the track anyways, so why worry about handling at the limit? To the owners, the car may LOOK way better....and that may be their main objective for their wheel purchase. I have yet to ever meet a mini owner who was buying 19's for performance, they will all tell me that, yah, it is for looks. If you wanted performance you would be getting 16s or even 15s. (I read a good article in eurotuner. On a track, the 15s turned the lowest track times, but the 17s were much more predictable....they chose 16s as a compromise for their jetta).

Handling isnt everything to everyone. It may be what you gauge the value of your car and mods on (hehe i do too, dont worry)....but some people gauge it on looks, some on speed, and some on dyno numbers. No one is right, no one is wrong. Hmmm maybe everyone is right....but still, no one is wrong. You have your opinion that wheels on minis should be no bigger than 17. Some people may believe that a car should have rims that are atleast 19 inches. Heck....in some rap song they say "gotta be 24s" . Those are all different opinions, but unfortunately(or fortunately), there is no ultimate truth. So....do what YOU like, and WE will do what WE like, and we can all come together and share the diverse artwork that is our cars

 

If you wanted to keep the stock diameter and get 19s, the tires would be paper thin (exaggeration). Many people end up increasing the diameter in order to get tires with atleast a little sidewall.
