Are black wheels just a fad?

I just came back from a MINI event in Atlanta at Global Imports and of the 60-70 cars there were only 2 with black wheels. So it is obviously not everyone's taste, but as I said before, I love it on mine.
Here is a link to most of the cars there:

I like how black wheels have less visual mass than silver. 17" looks like 16.5 etc. A polished lip will bring back some of the perceived size. 18" silver wheels look a little large on a MINI and white 18" would just look GARISH. But black 18" with a silver/polished/machined lip would play tricks with the eye, looking big, but not too big and add visual depth as well.
Only trouble with black wheels is that they make tires look dirty-brown. You have to keep them shiny all of the time. That's why mine are dark gunmetal/anthracite.

Black wheels really intrigue me. My MCS is Electric Blue with a black roof/stripes, tint. So I'm kinda going for black as a secondary color here...
I've been considering ditching my ultra-heavy, ironically named stock S-Lite wheels/runflat tires that come standard with the MSC sport package. (Which weigh in an obese 55 lbs. per wheel/tire)!
I've been considering lighter wheels, and looking at black wheels more and more often. But I can't help but wonder if in a year or two, will they look old, expired, and/or "soooo 2005!". Will this black wheel trend dry up?
I know I'm kinda asking you to help me see into the future, here, but your opinions will help. Thanks!

makes the jcw brembos stand out, and drilled/slotted rotors stand out.
also my jcw is black/red, so i dont want to add too much of a third color in the mix.

notice every other car in that lot has silver wheels 😶. i love black wheels, i think there are still few cars, especially MINIs, on the road with black wheels. I'm getting new wheels soon, and they'll be glossy black.

nice yellow. and i mean *stand out more. i just feel jcw red brakes over black stands out more than red over silver. especially when the wheels are rolling. and yellow over black as well actually. the wheels are plasti dipped, which looks terrible i know. im in the process of getting new wheels. they'll be gloss black ccw lm5t. but you can imagine if these were gloss black, those brakes would pop out a lot more.
