I use a 14.4v Makita at track days to take the lugs off AFTER I've loosened them with a breaker bar. Same going on - finger tight, then run it until it just begins to "impact", final tightening with torque wrench.

Why?

Spec calls for about 85-90 ft/lbs on wheel lugs - the Makita doesn't go that high and one shouldn't use the imapct wrench for final tightening anyway...

I like the additional safety factor to keep me from OVERTORQUEING my lugnuts. I've turned a wrench in my past and can't tell you how many BMW rotors I've seen warped by over-tightened lugs/bolts...

Be careful.

I use the 18v Milwaukee to loosen and tighten the centerlocks on my racecar (125 ft lbs). It easily does this all day long with one battery charge. Incredible tool that lives up to its marketing for a change. Expensive and a bit heavy, but burly and powerful. I highly recommend it. I've almost stopped using my air impact wrenchs cuz of this thing.

Fabian

PS....like most impact wrenches, it's not torque adjustable....always use the torque wrench for the final tighten.

i tried out the HF 12V corded one on my MCS today. one of my buddies gave it to me. I owe him tacobell. (he said it, not me).

It works just fine. one impact and the lug is off, one impact and the lug is on (ofcourse after truning the lugs a few revs by hand first). The first time it was over 90lbs closer to 100lbs, but the second time was about 80lbs. there might be a trick to getting consistent 80lbs....not sure.

this saves me so much time.
