BIGGER brake kit?

I just have to ask. Before I pour over the notes, specs and costs;

Is there any REAL interest in a 14" BBK for this car?

Yes, I said 14". Yes, I know the car doesn't 'need' 14" brakes. Yes, I can make it all work out quite well. No, I don't think it will cost the same as a 13" kit. No, it won't fit stock wheels.

I'm just reading of people who look at 18" plus wheels and can't help but wonder.

Not me. I went to 16 inch wheels due to the ride harshness of the 17 inch wheels & runflat tires that came from the factory.

I am interested in your brake kit for 16 inch wheels (SSRs @ 16x7). When my modification piggy bank gets replenished, I will be contacting you.

with my SSR 16X7.5's i don't feel the need for a brake upgrade...car stops very well due to the lighter weight wheels/tires. well, i don't really track
the car so never really encounted brake fade...

Bling sells. And there's nothing wrong with it if that's your deal.

I figure someone has to do it. Might as well be me. I'll do some more thinking on it and see what shapes up.

I'm just looking for input and comments. No bickering please. Just state your opinion and move along.

Anyone who's interested in working with me on this (i.e. discount) please let me know via email or pm and we'll talk.

Yep, Bling sells well. Can you market it for what it would be?

What calipers are you thinking about? To some, wilwoods are not as bling as brembo..

I don't currently have plans for alternative calipers from other sources. Not that I am married to WW but they do offer the best value for what we are proposing here. Aside from the engineering issues to deal with on alternate brands the biggest is simply cost. I'd rather not turn this into a $3000 kit just to have a different name on it.

Nothing wrong with bling!

Oh it will certianly add performance value. But let's be honest; any die hard track guy is going to be less impressed with 17lb rotors and 22", 60lb wheels. He's just a different animal with different needs.

Man With A Vision

Hey Todd,

I am pretty sure there is a market for your idea, perhaps overseas. Bling factor will play an important role, for die hard track guys, well, i do not think so, so hard to justify the necessity.

Would I buy it? If you help me with the wheels that will support 14"BBK, hell yeahhh....I am in. Otherwise, I am a simple street racer that jumps on everything with an unusual motion on the road, so probably will never need it.

Good Luck,

Berk

Spent some time on it today in fact. No details for folks just yet. Still in the brainstorming stage.

Don't stick your neck out too far...I just might call you. Gotta have 18s however.

isnt there a company in britian that used a porsche caliper on massive discs for their bbk? i believe it was gt tuning...

at least they did it, but would it be economically viable is one question, another is that the majority of mini owners who need bbks uses 16 or 17s on street, some uses 15s... 14' is great, but wouldn't it be too big to throw the balance you talked about all out of whack?

I do recall some Porsche set up pic being posted. Not sure of the details. And I'm not really claiming to break new ground. If someone has a 14" kit out there now or in the future then so be it. As for the link to the other one, just reading it brings to light a lot of things that I'd call into question. I welcome new products to compete with.

I'll have more details on this in the next week. I hope- need to do some on car investigating as well.

Currently we're looking at a well designed and planned 14" front kit with a number of things not found on the 13" kit. I think you'll be quite pleased with the final package.

Target price is about $2100.
