Need help! Will 18" Union Jack with 225/40 rub?

i'm driving a mini one and have those sets of wheels and tires sitting in the garage. My question is whether i can install those H&R lowering springs 30 mm and would it cause any rubbing in the rear?

If you lower it, it will rub. I had Hartge Classic with 225/40-18 before and it rub in the back. I swith the tires to 215 /35-18 much better........

For 17" and 18" wheels, tires that are 225mm or more tend to rub in the rear.

225/40-18 is quite wide (8.3+" tread width) AND tall. 25.1" outer tire diameter which is larger than stock. If you lower your MINI you would not be able to get enough clearance for the wider and taller tire.

215/35-18 measures about 7.6" tread width, 24" outer tire diameter and weighs about 3 pounds less than the 225/40-18 sized tire. It also fits a 18x7" rim better.

The stock MINI 17" tire has a 7.6" tread width and 24.3" outer tire diameter.

iguigu, does it always rub or once in a while. did u like the ride?

minihune, thank you so much for the information. So would the H-sport springs, which lowers the car less than H&R does, rub as well?

With no one sit in da back...is ok....

One time I had 2 people in da back, it rub CRAZY.
SO if you still going to use 225/40-18 then "cut" the plasic.

I had an idea of having the H&R lowering springs for the front and the OEM cooper S replaced on the back. Is it weird to have such an idea? Would it look strange?

Since you already have the tires in 225/40-18 you can just trim the plastic inner wheel wells.

First drive the car around a bit to get some rubbing -this will help to mark the areas needed to be trimmed.

Look at the How to trim link.

Get something to cut the plastic- dremmel is ok or heavy clippers since it is just plastic.

The more you lower your MINI the more you'd need to trim. I'd say go for the look you want and lower away, then trim as much as is needed to do the job and minimize rubbing.

H&R gives a lower drop, H-sports about 1" front and rear.
