205/40-17

Is anyone running 205/40-17 tires on their stock S-lites or aftermarket wheels with lowered suspension? I know 40 is not the ideal ratio to use, just want to see if there is any major risk issue by running them on streets.

Thanks!

I thinks it's more of the comfort factor that's a problem.. Plus the S-lites look pretty strong to take the beating on harsh roads..

Also if you live anywhere near potholes, you'll have a higher risk of bending your wheels since there's less sidewall to absorb the impact.

Generally the answer is no. Here's why.
205/40-17 can fit MINI stock 17x7" rims or similar.
At 80 load rating which is 992 pounds Max load, this is quite a bit less than the normal stock load rating of at least 84 used for the MINI.

If you did autocross, just a few laps by yourself with no additional load then using this tire could be possible. Using it for street use with passengers would not be recommended. You need an ample reserve in load rating when carrying passengers and their gear.

And the outer tire diameter of 23.5" is quite small for street use. Your odometer and speedometer would be off. Stock tire size is about one inch taller.

The 40 series sidewall is pretty stiff. Good for cornering but not good for comfort. If you hit a pothole you can do some bad damage to your tire, your rim and your MINI (suspension and strut towers). If you have less than very smooth roads think twice before choosing 40 or 35 series tires or drive carefully/slowly.
