Prada = fashion, Parada = tires!

Sorry, but this has got to stop. Prada is a fashion brand. Parada is a model of tire made by Yokohama (and nothing to really write home about at that). I have a feeling that the ricer crowd that the Parada is marketed toward (looks cool, wears ok, grips ok), thought it was tYt3 to mix/confuse the name with a high fashion line and it has caught on. MINI drivers should have a little more class. Ignorance is not bliss.

Use them if you like (everyone has their own preferences), but at least spell it correctly. Heck it's spelled out for you 4 times on your own car if you have them!

Next thing you know we'll have MINI's with paint stenciled carbon fiber hoods... hehehehe! I think we got our cars at around the same time, so it's been interesting to watch the community grow and see the tastes and priorities develop. People who complain about dampers >$750 but will pay hundreds of dollars for big vinyl stickers make me scratch my head. The "Prada" pet peeve just comes from dealing with too many dingbats in the Japanese tuning sector.

What on earth are you talking about?
You don't like tuned Japanese cars? This "ricer" reference is really getting old.

The Parada is actually a quite good tire, especially for the price! Depending on who you ask, it's right even/better with the AVS, with better wet traction. The first Parada model wasn't that good, but the second is pretty nice ! I hope you've actually ridden in/driven a car with Parada's to make such claims ! Note: The only thing that some have complained about is that it's a little loud when worn, but I didn't notice it overly much. Much quieter than the stocks.

Yes I had Parada Spec IIs on my MINI too. They are much better than AVS. Just don't last that long. I only got 9k out of them.

void - it's not a typo when it's repeated ovar and ovar again.

ingsoc - the original Parada was all for show. It was bad enough for them to release a "Spec 2", which like you said isn't that bad. I still prefer the ES100 though the wear is worse. The Neovas are excellent, and I can't wait for them to finally release here. I messed with some grey-market Neova AD07, and they kicked major butt with good wear. Anyways, there are better tires out there no matter what your street/track bias.

pfunk - I've built and tuned some of the top (Japanese) drift cars on the US circuit. A tuned car doesn't imply any sort of "ricer" reference. The term is usually more synonymous with ignorant or poorly-chosen modifications.

wagnabat -

Where can I get Prada tires for my MINI?

Do you know where I can get me some of those Prada tires? I think it's cool that a big fashion name would also cross over into automotive products. Talk about diversification!

So let me get this straight. You really believe that the marketing guys at Yokohama named their tires "Parada" because it sounds like "Prada" and the uneducated and distasteful "ricer" crowd will buy them thinking it's cool?

That's really funny.

No. The fact that Yokohama initially marketed the Parada tire toward an all-show/no-go crowd has nothing to do with some ricers thinking it's tYt3 to mispell/pronounce it like the fashion brand. That just seems to be an unfortunate coincidence.

In the MINI crowd, I'd prefer to think that it's ignorance/accident that the names get swapped.

I have no idea where you’re coming from with this thread – trolling maybe? People are going to use what they like regardless of the way the name is spelled.

I don’t think any tyre is can be equated to any kind of car group, especially the MINI because there are too many of us who belong to no group but driving is our pleasure and fun.

So take your 5 posts and run along.

Been here a lot longer than 5 posts. Just have a new SN.

I'm not trolling. Just a boring day at work and I got tired of reading Yokohama "Prada" on the forums. In no way am I discouraging the use of the Parada Spec 2's, as they're a perfectly decent street tire (just not my #1 choice). I'm also not equating any tire with the MINI group. I pointed out that Yokohama originally put out a "show" tire with the Parada: super-aggressive tread pattern with NO traction.

I would suggest you actually try to comprehend posts instead of knee-jerking to them. I'm just trying to help those MINI owners that use Parada's to not type like 16yo Civic drivers. I don't think ANYONE wants that... And pass some time.

Funny thing is if you went through DiD to have your screen named changed you would have had all your post count transferred also.

I'm smelling troll from here.

Ah, now I can see how you might think that I am implying that people NOT use them because of the name. That's not what I meant at all. I personally don't like the Parada Spec 2 for performance reasons. The name actually sounds kinda cool. Just spell it right so you don't sound uneducated. That's what I meant by having more class etc. blahblah.

Yah I'm trolling. I figured out what my mistake was. I kept logging into namotoring.com instead of northamericanmotoring.com. It will let you log in all day long and kick you back as logged out. So I made a new profile, primarily so I could PM someone about some brake pads. What (or who) is "DiD"?

Haha...

Aw, come on sndwave, we all have our pet peeves, right?

Like... when people say nucular instead of nuclear... or when people say irregardless... or when people say heighth instead of just plain height.

Ya know?
