Is it just me or does MCS brakes suck

This is one of the reasons why i want to sell my car. I dont think hte brakes match the rest of the performance of the car. Is there and low cost mods i could do to upgrade my brakes. By low cost i mean not a BBK for 3000 dollars. Would getting slotted rotors and soem nice pads make a big difference?

Buy new pads

The braking system is fine. However, I think you would notice a vast improvement if you replaced the stock, ceramic pads to something that has a bit more bite. I'll eventually do this upgrade, but I haven't researched it enough to offer suggestions.

I changed the brake fluid to ATE Blue but other than that I have to say the brakes do just fine on the street, the track, and autox. At some point I will change to slots but not on my 05s at this point.

Under normal driving conditions, I think the brakes are great. But I do notice a fade sometimes on the autox course.

Lots of folks have up-graded the brakes for competitive purposes, but I've never heard anyone say they suck. Could be a more serious problem?? If you're floggin your MINI, remember, in stock trim it's just a passenger car.

No big problems, however, during summer, they tend to fade time pretty quick. That being said, I should not forget that it gets over 100F here during summer, which is almost 6 months in a year and I am running on S-lites, and they let less air.

Steel braided brake lines with better brake fluid and Hawk Pads would be my suggestion for a cheap modification, would cost you less than $400.00 if you have someone install for you, and results would be great, based on my experience from my old GTI

Compared to the crap cars I used to drive Mini brakes are by far the best I ever had. I'm not sure what your problem is with them?

I also don't think that there's anything wrong with the stock brakes. I have SS lines and ATE SuperBlue, but that's mostly b/c some of our friends that sell WRX stuff were checking out fitment on a SS line manufacturer and wanted to see how the MINI lines fit, so I got a good deal from them. For future track days, I'll likely get a set of better pads, but I think I'm otherwise happy with my brakes. I have yet to experience any real brake fade in my car. It's amazing what can be done with 1-pot brakes

I can't believe you haven't sold your car yet! Has it been a month? It's beautiful. Of course it's the same color as mine, but your black wheels have silver rims (mine are plain black). I would sell it as is without modifying the brakes. Good luck.

Well, that is way besides the point. I am married, too. The amazing thing is being a girl, and having all these mods in the car, and being very knowledgable as well. Ken, Ken, Ken, Ken.... You are something, man .

With that kind of a problem I would sell the car immediately. And cheap before you hit someone in it. $2K should be enough to get rid of that death trap.

My stock brake system, with nothing more than some Ate Blue fluid and solid brake guides has served me well in 2 full autocross seasons in the Texas heat and several track days as well. Only on the very hottest of days at the autocross, where there isn't constant air flowing over the system, have I experienced any "fade" - and that was only on the 4th of 4 runs. Braking on the track has remained stellar for 20-25 minute sessions. On the street, they're perfect.

It's still totally stock, except for Cobalt GTS pads... and it still rocks. I will be installing some SS lines, but ONLY because I got some very, very cheap. BTW, the Cobalt pads are loud, squealing SOB's on the street, but they still work well.

BBK's are wholly unnecessary for anything but a full blown race car.

If you want cheap brake upgrades, look at flushing with good fluid (Ate Blue or Typ 200, Motul, Castrol SRF), swap in some good pads. Add some SS lines if you really, really want to. Solid rotors rule for autocrossing and track (despite what some may say), and on the street for that matter. Slotted and cross-drilled rotors are bling, period.
