New rotors = new pads?

When you install new rotors do you have to also install new pads?
I had to order new rotors as my other ones (not stock) were warped. The info sheet that came with the new rotors says new brake pads MUST be used. Is this really the case or is it the rotor manufacturer trying to cover himself? My pads only have a couple of thousand miles on them. It may sound like I'm trying to be cheap about this but that really isn't the case, it's just that I don't want to have to sit around another week for new green stuff pads to arrive when I can just use my existing ones (if I get the okay from knowledgable people on here).

Thanks,

Ken

Re-use them. Obviously if your 3/4 of the way through a set it's a better idea to go ahead and replace while you have'm apart...but if they're still fresh, use them.

Might want to re-do the brake bedding process, and be sure you clean the cosmoline off the friction surfaces of the new rotors..

it is always better to buy new pads when changing rotors.. the new pad has to mate to the rotors.. your old pads have mated to your old rotors. old pads have grooves and other imperfections that make them less ideal for mating to the new rotor suface... (noise and uneven pad wear could be the effect)

good luck

Agreed, New rotors use new pads...also use the low-dust type....you'll be glad you did.

Cheers

If there is life left in your pads, there's nothing wrong with using them with new rotors. Replacing them is always a good option, esp since you've got everything taken apart while swapping rotors. But not necessary.

BMW says YES

People can have any opinions they want. If it were me, I do what the people who built the car says to do

The discs cost the $'s, not the pads, why not have a fresh brake system, bleed and/or flush the fluid as well? ALL NEW, now...

i've done it both ways. the car feels much better when you replace both the pads and the rotors.

When replacing rotors I always use new pads.

Sometimes I will replace worn (not too worn) pads with fresh pads and not change rotors.

Thanks for the replies people. Looks like the New Pads beat the Old Pads 6-1 with a streaker flashing his "I just got new rotors and pads" adding to the game's atmosphere.

I guess I'm waiting the extra week until my new green stuff pads arrive.

Thanks,

Ken
