Question for those with Ultra High performance Summer tires on 15" (no all season answers please)

How stiff do you think the side wall is for your tire? I know 15" will generally give better all round performance, but I do like the stiffer sidewall of the lower profile 16-17 tires. How does YOUR 15" summer tires compare?

Man I've been dying to know this answer, this thread is great

ps. I'm on 15" holies too

yo BRG

What kind/size of tires you have there? Look good and fill the well.

I will track my JCW with 205/50/15 Azenis, BUT dailies are 205/55/16, which are over-daimeter (fill the well) and still get alot of wheelspin....

Thanks

Derek

Mine is pretty stiff. I'm running Kumho ecsta's and the sidewall is pretty small because im running 205/50....so its a lot like the 17s i was running a while back. Doesnt bother me....but if you are looking for better ride comfort, i would stick to stock diameter.

Your car is starting to look a lot like mine....i think i started a trend

I've been considering going down in diameter. If the poorer ride quality is offset by better performance it might be worthwhile. Lower gearing, less unsprung weight and an almost half-inch drop in center of gravity... are these somewhat noticeable, or do you just notice a rougher ride?

They are very noticable....and i sorta like rough rides, they allow me to feel what is happening on the road and to the car instead of being numb to how the car is reacting.

My tires are toyo t1s 195/50/15 in the pics  which I've replaced with falken ziex ze-512 205/55/15 now.. as for the wheelspin... lol.. you can't avoid it... as least not me... I got alot of wheelspin on 1st 2st and 3rd gear... specially on revs above 4000rpm

I think come spring time I will be installing a set of 15X7 Team Dynamics Pro Race 1's in white along with some 225/50/R15 tires, but I am still searching as to which tires I want to run.

Right Now I am considering:

Bridgestone Potenza S03 Pole Positions
Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2's
BFGppdrich G-Force TA-KD's

Anyone with any recommendations/experience with these tires feel free to let me know!

Will a 225/50 fit without rubbing? RallyMINI, I see you are using some Rewinds; is there anything stopping you from going to a 225 on that wheel? I'm looking at Rewinds and would like to know how wide I can go.

I have talked to a few people and all seem to say that 225/50's are fine with no rubbing at all! You can search here and on mini2.com and both agree that 225's are OK. There are even a few people running 225/45/R16s with no rubbing (though I am not sure what offset their wheels are).

as i mentioned on the first page, im running 215/50 on those exact wheels. with the amount of wheel gap present with 15s and smaller tires, i dont see how you could possibly rub unless it was on the shocks.

I got a set of BBS RG-F's with 205/50/15's.

I hope the gap isn't to bad.

Does anyone have the same size tire with stock suspension?

I would love to see some pics

OH, and I forgot:

Stock Tires are 205/45/R17 = (205*.45*2)/25.4 + 17 = 24.26" OD

My suggested Tires are 225/50/R15 = (225*.5*2)/25.4 +15 = 23.86 OD

This ends up being a 1.6% reduction which is fine... I heard that anything less than 2% is OK.

They also end up being 18lbs lighter PER CORNER! (Wheels and Tires vs stock 17" runflats!).

Yeah, I was looking at those calculations as well. I know the diameter is about right but I'm just worried about the extra 20mm width rubbing on something (especially on the 40mm offset of the Rewinds)

Great taste in wheels (RG-F), wish I could say the same about your number plate......only joking !! I was moved to tears last night after watching the tribute given to George Best before the West Brom game.
Bill (Toffees supporter....for my sins).

P.S. Do you have any photos of the RG-F with 205/55-15 on your car? I'm thinking of going with the same set-up.

We could loose every match this season, as long as we continue to be a thorn in the side of the Arsenholes.

running 15 X 7 SSR with Toyo RA 1 225/45-15 for track. They are wonderful- handle great and last long while for R compound.
Street setup is 17 X 7 Centerline RPM with 215/40-17 Bridgestone SO 3. The 15" RA 1 ride so much nicer & are significantly less harsh and handle great -thinking of getting another set of 15" rims & RA1 for street. All my pics are on computer that just crashed.

I'm running 225/50R15 Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on 15" Flik Blast-C wheels for autocrossing goodness...

They fit fine, even with the drop from the H&R springs...

Looks good and I see a Webb Rear Sway there too.

If you get a chance, could you take a picture showing the entire car from the side? Thanks!
