45mm spacers
#1
How do 45mm spacers affect performance?
Can 45mm spacers all around have any negative effect on the car regarding performance or otherwise? From what I've heard it will actually help the suspension since it creates a wider track, but I just want to verify this before I go and do it to my car.

damn, that will push the tires out to eternity.
do you mean like a 5mm spacer? or a 10 or 15mm?

Koenner1 - I do not think spacers will affect performance
Maybe if you had a lowered 1979 Buick with gold wire wheels and a 'Jealousy' placque in the rear window THEN 45 mm might be a good idea - JK
Other wise you might want to think about 3 - 5 mm.
My wheels have 5mm spacer in the back. I used to have them in the front but I took them off because vibration. You can pick them up from Pilo for a great price. My pic below shows what my SSR look like with 3 mm spacers. The original offset is 42 which brings me down to a 39 mm offset.
Click on my sig to see my what they look like.

Mind you I am no specialist but OFFSET is the measurement of how much your wheels stick out. For example... if you look at your wheel arches you can see if the wheel is under the arch or flush with it. When it sticks out too much you would have rubbing.
The stock S lites have an offset of 45 if I am not mistaken. If you are planning to get wheels you have definitely keep in mind what offset the wheel comes in.
And the SSR Comp R's are 16x6.5. Hubcentric with no center caps. They were the first production run produced with TireRack just for the Mini.

Scuderia - Ouch! Dont say that out loud. Thats why i went for the spacers. And I still feel my offset is not aggresive enough. -
Here are some great priced spacers for those looking

Don't forget to get longer bolts if you go for the 6mm - which is another 50 bucks

imho. i purposefully bought wheels with high offset on my other
car and have a variety of different offset spacers from Kics.
btw, for those looking for spacers, i highly recommend you get ones
with the hubcentric rings (H&R's) unless you can still rest your
wheel on the factory bore.

ugly duckling - your car looks fine.
berky-
16x7.5's with +42 does not stick out btw. it is still tucked under the
fender a little bit. it is very close to flush, but not sticking out...
just the way I like it.

As for the vibration - I think they must have been by the spacer, because once I removed them the vibration stopped. The spacers were not hubcentric.
