what offset for auto-x?

I'm looking into wheels soon, and have come to a decision on the wheels themselves, but I've searched around and found a couple different responses, what offset should a set of 16's be to be safe in autocross to not damage the wheel hubs? I will most likely be using Powerslot rotors and stock calipers, if that makes a difference

adendum - does the centerbore matter when buying a wheel? the MCS centerbore is 56? or something like that? Do I need a wheel that matches that?

I can't answer the original question but the centerbore is important. The MCS has a 56.1mm centerbore and aftermarket wheels will usually have a much larger one (like 70mm). When you get your wheels, you will need hubcentric rings to put in the wheels so they line up centered on the hub. Otherwise, you might get vibration at higher speeds. A lot of places send centering rings with the wheels when you order them. There are plastic and metal rings; metal seems to be the preferred material as it does not melt from heavy brake use on the track.

What class are you going to autocross in? G-stock for SCCA?
If so then you'll be using stock sized rims with offset very close to stock or about +45 to +48mm et. You'll be using stock suspension.

If you are in a modified class then you have a greater range of choices and just want something that will fit your suspension (stock or modified/lowered) and brake/brake upgrades. Offset by itself is not determined by autocrossing per se but by the various upgrades you can add to your suspension and braking systems- then it becomes a fitment issue.

You might want to talk to Alex@tirerack to find out which rims and offsets would work in your case given the class you wish to drive in for autocross.

Stock MINI wheels all come with centerbore 56.1mm and you can get this with only a few wheels. A common choice is Rota Slipstream which can be ordered with 56.1mm centerbore and in sizes good for autocrossing or in the 16x6.5" size. See Jessica at 18racing.com for more info.

Many of the other aftermarket rims are larger centerbore so that they will fit a variety of other cars. Centering rims are then used to fit the rim and the MINI hub for a precise fit- I always use centering rings when appropriate.

wheels for a\c

email jessica, sales@18racing.com . That's the address for Rota wheels ... you can pickup STOCK size wheels for under $500 and the hub size is correct at 56.1mm. Ask for the 45mm offset. Buy the 16" Slipstreams .. many color selections ... this will keep you in G Stock if an S, H Stock if non-S ... YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE IN A MOD CLASS WITH THE MCS.

You will be running in street modified if you run at local SCCA events. You really need to know what width wheel you are getting before you start talking about offset. The correct offset for a 16x6.5 will be very different than the correct offset for a 16x8.

Yup... wheel width and tire choice are important...

I run a 225/50R15 on 15x6.5 wheels with a +40ET, personally...
